Default went to the ref to get my 88 crx with a JDM b16 passed

well i swapped everything obd1, and had carb legal everything. The refs are super cool they are very informative. but i fail for lil reasons.

the reasons i failed was the following. I chopped a leg off a LS dizzy because i did not want to pay for a new one and they noticed that was one thing.
I did not have an evap purge valve, and i was worried that they would make me get a new manifold, but they said just get an evap purge valve and splice it into the big tube that plugs into the middle of the intake mani go look at your intake and you will see the tube i am talking about.
My injen intake was the right part number but it had the wrong carb # so i need to call injen so they can send me a new one, injen likes to do that because the same thing happened to my friend.
And i had an exhaust leak from where my cat and header meet up so they couldn't test me. All in all it was very informative. They told us that either it be a H22 a B18 or a B16 all you have to do is put all the US parts........intake manifold, header, and make sure its the right OBD for that year motor.
I even asked about a B20 and he said NOPE thats a SUV motor not a passanger car motor. So basically if you get a USDM motor and put it into whatever car you have given that the motor is not older than your car you are putting it in you will pass visual.
Oh and they just looked at the ecu and was like ok p30 they didn't really care if it was jdm or usdm and ofcourse i didn't tell them .
So when i get back from vacation i will be going back to the ref with those parts fixed and see how things go.
He told me to go to a smog station and have them run me there just so i dont waste a trip to the ref.
So i will let you guys know when i am going to go back sometime middle of january probably.

thats fucked up.. i'm so glad i don't have to do that.. i wouldn't pass **** in my cars.. lol
If i lived in cali.. i'd register my car under another states address.. like if you have an aunt that lives in Texas or something.. then just make a trip to Texas once a year to get everything..
My aunt was miltary and she did that while living in California. Her 89 Nissian Pathfinder was a piece of ****.

I don't see why they don't just put it on the sniffer. If it passes WHO GIVES A FLYING **** what's under the hood.

Cali = retarded.

Ya, it really sucks having warm weather all year round and being able to drive your car 365 days a year. I can't remember ever having to dig my car out of the snow and putting winter tires on it. I am still looking for rust on my car and haven't found any.

Whitemike;

I'm glad to hear from somebody that is going through the effort to get their sticker and not whinning about it or asking where it can get passed "under the table"!!

Due to the fact that Referee's view the guidelines differently, it may be helpfull to others the location (address) of the Referee that you went to. As an example, the Referee near me said that there was no way that he would pass a JDM engine.

As for your comment on them not minding if it's a JDM ECU or not, you may not be totally correct. The reason I say this is that for a 95 GSR engine, you need a P72A1 ECU. The "A" signifies that it's a USDM ECU. In other words, the ID number would let them know if it's JDM or not.

LoL! I hear ya. Cali may be strict on smog laws, but that shouldnt deter anyone from living here. Cali is the place to be, I've lived in Jersey, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, and Texas and can honestly say Cali is 40000000 times better than all those states put together. Everyone reads about the Smog issues and gets scared of Cali, but its not like you CONSTANTLY get pulled over and constantly get your car impounded. It really depends on what City you're in. Im in Corona and Cops never second glance at me. Pasadena, San Gabriel and Alhambra on the other hand, good luck

nope 99-00 si evap won't work you need an OBD1 version.

Jdm motors are not trust able I would rather buy a GSR CALI version and go smog it because it will pass because cali motors need to run clean

jdm motors might not run that clean like mine I had hard time 15MPH tests. But it pass with flying colors at 25mph. I bet if my motor was a Cali GSR I would have passed long time ago.

I have seen numerous times that Cali motor have 100% passing scores compared to jap motors.

i dont understand is this for a inspection ? Whats a ref ? Here in NY u get the car insured go to dmv and get it registered . DMV then gives u temporary inspection sticker for 10 days and u drive till the u get pulled over for the temporary inspection sticker or find somebody than can get u a legit inspection sticker for $100. , whichever happens first . None of this carb legal ,smog ref BS.
If I had to go to a ref to pass a state inspection. They would laugh at me. Mycar wont even pass the emissions (sniff test I guess ) $$$ can solve most problems here though. Thats just the way it is.

Yeah i live in NC and am a state inspector. All we do pretty much for 96up vehicles is make sure the car doesn't have a check engine light on (via obd2 plug test) and do a visual inspection to make sure the car has what its supposed too (cats, O2's, evap canisters, pcv, etc). For 95 and older we do a tail pipe test and visual inspection for the above items, but in 2005 we will be getting rid of that tailpipe test altogether because the EPA thinks that by that year 70 per cent of all 95 and older vehicles will be off the road. And i can drive my car 365 days a year and never have to worry about snow or snow tires (whats that?) (unfortunately because i love snow!!!). I live in Charlotte, NC so its only a two hour drive west to the mountains and 2.5 hour drive east to the beach.

For those of you who dont get inspected or smogged now, enjoy it while you can, I live in Iowa right now and dont have to deal with it, but I just moved back from chicago where they are emissions crazy(go figure).

Being that im in the industry, Ive got a pretty good inside scoop from ref's, (2 of my best buds are refs at the emissions/smog shop down the street from my shop in chicago) That by the year 2006 everyone in the united states will have some sort of inspection be it, visual, smog, somthing......alot of states right now just have inspections, but like illinois you have to pass a shitload of stuff including a dyno pull.

And cali is the worse but they started all this with cafe and everything along time ago.......pretty soon guys alot of cars you see and ask yourself how is that driving around like that? wont be there anymore.....

damn, i know i wouldnt pass in cali. I have all sorts of JDM **** on my car. as someone said before, when are these people going to just learn that if it passes a snifter, then *** it let it go. who cares whats under the hood. im in georgia an they are pretty bad out here, but theres ways around it. out here if you fail, just find a shop your cool with an let them right you a $500 repair bill an your exempt for another year. or "get passed" is what i do but the emissions fee is $100

Michigan is awsome, no one runs cats around here, cops really dont care unless your in detroit or grand rapids, my friend got pulled over buy the cops once for a loud exuast, he grabbed a magizine and showed the cop a pic of a exuast that looked like his and was 50 state legal and the cop let him go i will never move to cali, unless the "Governator" gets rid of all that smog BS
