do Acura workers get discounts on Comptech products?
this might not exactly be ITR specific.. but theres a couple Acura vendors here, and most of you know stuff about Comptech products..
so, i was wondering if Acura people get discounts on Comptech products. reason i ask is because i want to get a comptech swaybar/tie bar combo (but for my civic).. but i dont feel like paying the 390 shipped price.

What do you mean by "Acura people"? People who work for Acura corporate? Or people who work for a dealership?
For dealership employees, it's up to each individual dealership whether to give discounts to its employees on their parts purchases, which would include Comptech parts. Each dealership is an independent business. I'm sure some do, and some don't - and the amount of the discount varies among the ones that do.
Keep in mind that there are disadvantages in purchasing your parts in someone else's name. It might be difficult to file warranty claims, to get reimbursement from your insurance company if your car is stolen, etc.

I think what he was criticizing was the "abbreviation-speak" - "b" for "be", "no" for "know", "u" for "you", etc. It makes a post very difficult to read and to understand.
When I write my posts, I like people to read them, and to understand what I am trying to say. And I bet you do, too. The information you provided was helpful. Please keep contributing and providing useful information on h-t.com! But if you want people to bother reading what you say, and listening to you - instead of skipping over it because it's too hard to read - then I would suggest that you write without the "abbreviation-speak".
I'm just providing a friendly suggestion, no flames intended...

Comptech is not affiliated with Honda/Acura. Dealers just choose to sell their products. Employees can`t call Comptech and say "I work at Joe Blow Acura" and get a discount. I`m sure the parts dept. would sell to dealership employees at a discounted rate though.

I believe Acura (Acura Division of American Honda) has a contractual agreement with Comptech under which all Acura dealers are able to offer Comptech products for sale, if they want to do so.
EDIT: Clarified wording in the above.

I don`t think so. I could be wrong though. Where`s "nateh@comptechusa.com" when you need him.

Incorrect, when I was in the market for a Comptech header I talked our parts dept. and they had never even heard of Comptech. I ended up buying one used so I don't know if I would have gotten a discount ordering through them.

Like it was said earlier I think a discount for employees is different from shop to shop. My buddy that works at Honda used to get a 5-10% disount and was able to swing a small discount for our old group with a Comptech but that's because one of the shop managers knew one of the Comptech guys well. And lucky for me because I had a problem with my resonator pipe 3 times and I got it replaced for free from Comptech at no charge even though I wasn't the original buyer.

Just because Acura has an agreement with Comptech to make their (Comptech's) parts available from their (Acura's) dealers, that doesn't mean that they publicize it well to all the dealerships, or that all the parts managers bother reading everything they receive from Acura corporate, or decide whether or not to carry their parts. But they can, if they want to.
Acura designates a zone parts manager, and within each zone, there are regional parts managers. (These are employees of Acura Division of American Honda, not dealership employees.) If the parts manager at your dealership talks to those folks, they should be able to give him/her the scoop about the availability of Comptech parts.

Comptech reps go to dealerships just like any normal retail store. The dealership then has the opportunity to choose to be a dealer of comptech or not. The contract with Acura is just in place so that Comptech is eligible to be sold through dealerships. I got a free set of rotors when the comptech rep came buy, but they were not picked up, and are not sold through the dealership. If you know someone that works at a dealership that is a dealer of comptech I'm sure they get a deal on the parts.

Gotcha. So in other words, the contract says that Acura dealers can sell Comptech parts - but not every Acura dealer does so. Thanks for the clarification.

He's right here.
We don't have a contract with Honda or Acura as far as selling our products go. We have been involved with them through motorsports for the past 10 years or so and are very grateful for the relationship we have built with them. As far as carrying our product goes, it's up to the individual dealership. And as far as giving discounts to employees goes, once again, up to the dealership. In answer to your question, there are dealerships and stores that sell our products less than MSRP.
