Default jerky cruising

for the past couple days now, ive noticed it really come on. one instance in which i was coasting in 2nd through a parkinglot... my car would almost lunge foward by itself as if i was tapping the gas.

and again today, i noticed it on the freeway. not really when accelerating, but just when cruising. i was in 5th going around 70-80 and i would feel a slight jerk, back and forth. and it wasnt constant. it would happen at random intervals.

what are some possible problems... or THE problem?

try cleaning your throttle body with some t-body cleaner. Sounds like you may have a sticky t-body or use some fuel injector cleaner. Good luck

im thinking i have a throttle problem. but is it electrical or because of the tb?

i noticed, normally when i cruise, i can keep my foot basically still. the throttle chanegs .1% up or down usually. but when i felt the jerkiness... i was in 5th, 70ish... and the throttle% was jumping between 9 and 14%. btw, i was reading all this off the vafc.

from experience i would say that you have a bad EGR valve

Most have said it's from a bad knock sensor, and some from the EGR. What you are experiencing is the infamous "Prelude Hesitation"

heres another thing that happened, maybe this with further solidify your conclusions. today i was racing my friend and randomly the check light would come on. thing is, whenever it did, my throttle problem would go away... and along with that, the vafc would show a constant 0% throttle, even if i was flooring it.

if its the egr, im assuming i can just get a new one. but for the knock sensor, can i just disable it? or is there a way to fix that problem? i running a p72 if it makes a difference.

ok i checked the codes. i was getting quite a few. 3, 7 and 21(map, tps, vtec solenoid valve).

now what do i have to do to fix this crap?

i dont really know what those do, but its obvious theyre affecting it somehow. but whats with the vtec solenoid? what does that affect? ive nver had a problem with vtec engaging or anything like that.

pull your vafc off. i bet you have a problem with that. a tps code is very rare for a honda. that will be easy to start with and may eliminate all 3 of your problems

i would have said the TPS when you said the 0% throttle thing.

Like he said, unhook the VAFC; it may just be b/c of some bad wiring.

i tried that. i turned the car off and unclipped the vafc. started it back up and the same problem. i was just sitting in neutral watching it idle and it was jumping around. from over 1000rpm down to 4-500, like is was going to stall out.

no, not unclip it; actually go through the wiring and look at everything. If one is grounding out b/c it's not insuldated good enough, then it's gonna cause a lot of problems.

oh ok. im sure it very easy to do that. but im not the one who wired it up and i dont know alot about doing that kind of stuff. but i think i found a solution until i can take it to the shop monday.

i went on hoping it was the tps causing all the problems. i was reading through the haynes and it mentioned that if a code7 is thrown the ecu will revert back to an artificial stock mode and i will regain some performance... which i believe i was feelings. whenever the check light went on, the car would feel better. so assuming there is some back wiring or a bad tps, i just unplugged it and now it runs fine. i know its not running like it should, but its great compared to what it was before.

if what i did was a big no-no, what else can i do. im not a complete idiot but i dont want to start messing with ecu wiring if that would be necessary.

and thanks for all the help. i get so much more advise on this forum than all others combined.

well it looks like i was trippin a little bit. i reset the ecu and drove around for a bit... real hard, trying to make anything that was going to go wrong, go wrong. and the only code i got was the tps. so its either wiring where the connector is or in the ecu where the vafc was installed. either way, im going to let the shop deal with it, since theyre the ones that put it in. and of course, theyll be doing it for free.
