Default Noise From Subwoofer

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-P850MP and I've noticed that it's a lot noisier than my Clarion deck I had before. Even with the volume at a normal level I can hear a substantial amount of pink noise coming from the speakers. I can also hear the laser tracking through my sub (kind of like when you have a bad ground on your amp). It's not horrible but it's annoying.

Could the deck be faulty? It comes with Rear, Front and Sub Outs but the way my amp is connected, I only use the fronts and rears with the rears controlling my sub. I don't think this should be a problem since this is how I had my old deck hooked up and I didn't have any noise at all from it. What do you think?

is it alternator whine? if so, trying grounding your rca wires. i had an *** load of alternator whine, and tried everything to get rid of it. finally i just grounded my rca's and it went away.

btw, why do you have your sub running off the rear out puts?

No, it's not alternator whine. Actually I figured out where the tracking sound was coming from and am working on getting rid of that. The only other problem is that the stereo makes a lot of hiss (it almost sounds like I have a tape deck in my car) all of the time. I'll probably send it back just to be safe.

Actually my sub isn't connected to my rear outputs from my deck. I run the rear outputs to my rear speakers which are connected through my amp and then I use the outs for my rear channel on my main amp and run them into my sub amp. Same as running it through a sub out on your deck but at the time my deck didn't have a dedicated sub pre-out.

This is usually what happens when the ground on the RCA cables is allowed to come into contact with a hot +12v lead. It sounds like the RCA ground has been damaged internally in the deck.

Sounds like it could be that. Another thing I looked at was my RCA out to my amp. One of my Monster Cables has a small wire coming out of it that's supposed to be hooked to the deck's ground cable. Supposedly it's supposed to have a cleaner signal. I wonder if this wire is causing the sound (maybe it's hitting the back of the deck...but I thought the outside of the deck is independent from the internal wiring so you won't have any grounding issues. I'm getting a new one sent out and I'll keep you posted.
