Default My B20 nonvtec build

I need opinions. I'm debating on going vtec but I just want to hear what other people would do if they were in my situation. This is a nonvtec b20 that I'm working with. I want more N/A power. To name the main stuff:

JE 11.5 to 1 c/r 84.5mm(with a b16 head), eagle rods, z10 block girdle
Ls head milled .060, p&p, crower 404 cams and dual springs, skunk mani, type r t/b, a dc 4-2-1 header and some other stuff I'm sure I've left out.

My banger dynoed at 182 hp and 143 tq with an safcII. I have not taken it to the track yet so I don't know what it will run. Anyways I was wondering if I threw a relatively stock b16a head with type r cams on my built block if I would hit numbers higher than what I already have or would it not be worthe the hassle? I'm just looking for some opinions from experienced builders, thanks.

im pretty sure you would make more power with the vtec head. back in the day HX_Guy had a setup similar to that except he didnt have a ported head. i think he put down mid 170's with an afc and the 404's with a non ported head but 150 or so tq. he then switched over to a b16 head with R cams and was workin on 200 hp. basically i think you have some more power to gain with a better header, like maybe 190/150 range and more tuning so i dunno, its up to you.

I think I'm going to go the vtec route with hondata. That should get me in the 200hp range I'm sure. I've gone about as far as I can with nonvtec. The 4-2-1 header and 2 1/4" exhaust are choking me for sure. Thanks for the reply.

b20ek I am on the same boat like you. I have my B20z with full crower catalog and I am going to switch to vtec head with CTR cams. I am worried about the car being slower than right now. Currently I have ran a best of 14.2 (corrected) in a 93 Civic EX coupe on 14in street tires. No traction whatsover on 1st gear.

Well I guess we'll never know for sure unless we try it.

::::

Here is my rundown of what I am looking for, first is cost. I am straying away from a B18C1, and more towards the non-vtec realm. I am not so intrested in drag racing, in fact it kinda boars me. I do some auto-x, so boosting my current D16Y8 isn't a good idea. So I am down to two choices a B18B or a B20B/Z. Both of these are ~ the same in price. My questions is which is better for my situation. I am against the Vtec head swap, due to the avious rod/stroke issues with LS/B20 Vtech apps. So going totally non-vtec NA is what I want to do. After reading numerious dynos off stock and slightly modded 18s and 20s, the B20 seems to be a more impressive contender. However I am reading about its stock sleeves being a bit weak, how would this be a turbo issue and not a N/A issue? The block of the 20 is the biggiest problem that I am learing about. Besides that, are there any other issues? Would high comp. ratios in either of these engies be a problem, refering to teh 10.5-11 range.

Guess what? I tried it. I switched over to a 94 B16 head, CTR cams, stock valves and valvetrain, ITR intake manifold, ls throttlebody , still using ITR header, straight pipe and greddy SP exhaust ran at the same track with the same street tires and it ran a 13.7 (corrected). I still need to get bigger injectors, fpr, a little tunning and some slicks. I can not floor it in first gear. NO TRACTION.
