Arai is my pesonal favorite, simpson test well and so does the new company that Simpson started. If I remember correctly his name is Bill Simpson, I don't remember the name of his new company but you probably want to check into it. He pushes hard to be a leader in saftey equipment and made Simpson what it is. I haven't looked into his new stuff but I hear good things...whatever that's worth. Check out this site, it list great info on the qualifications and differences between a snell cert and a dot cert.

snell is the hardest to pass and anything Snell certs will pass Dot. DOT works on the honor system. A helmet company test their own product and then tells DOT it passes and pays for the cert. For Snell, they do their own testing. Some helmet companies only get the Snell cert because they don't want to pay for the DOT cert. Basicly snell is the hardest to pass and anything Snell certs will pass Dot. So after that it's mostly your opinion. Keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for. They say if you have a five dollar head..buy a five dollar helmet. If your head is worth more to you...spend some money.
I own two helmets, an arai and a shoie. Love the arai, hate the shoei. Some of the new shoei helmets are nice but they're spinoffs of an arai. They were built as a reaction to the Arai helmets. I love the Simpson helmets but don't like their liner quality. This is just my opinion, but I think Arai makes the most comfortable helmet and the best quality in construction. They only have to pass the test once, but they build them to pass twice. This means that Snell drops the helmet in the same spot twice. Some (most) companies build their helmets just well enough to pass once

I found out about these from Bobby Archer. They're widely used in roadracing and offer advantages in injury reduction. Any Sfi belt will hold you in but that doesn't mean it won't hurt you doing it. That's where these exceed. We're putting a TeamTech belt in Rado's new car. We're using the standard style 5 point with all of the padding.
That's all of my 2 cents .... good luck

HJC has some good prices and fit well to me.
Seat belts and seat take a look at RCI. Great belts, Aluminum seats, Driver apparel, and fuel cells. Also good price.

Is there a difference in safety between like a sparco seat versus a (matrix, APC) Type of seat? I was thinking about gettin one but i dont wanna get it if it's going to compromise my safety..
fast drag cars are not allowed reclinable seats around the 10 second barrier and yes Sparco seat as well as Momo and OMP are FIA approved, meaning they are tested for crush zones and pass standards known for road racing. the seats frame won't snap in half, with you in it.Sparco Speed starts at $215 i believe. they sponsor me with great products
i'm lookin for a decent price, safety, and comfortability, and light
i would reccomend spaco rev it is a fixed seat. it weights 13.8 lbs and is $549 each. also it is FIA approved

I have a RCI 5 pt harness (cam-lock), Soon to purchase a RCI helmet($249 @ summit), and i have a MOMO streetracer seat....awaiting seat bracket in the mail.
$249 for helmet? isn't that expensive for non-Simpson? have you tried JCWHITNEY Catalog, helmets which are SNELL 2000 are like $100 or even $90 bucks. does the job. the seat I would recomend for a first time user is SPARCO Sprint like $215 $85 for bracket(FIA approved), Momo Clubman or whatever the name $200 seat is also good.
i got my Gforce Snell M2000 helmet for $100, my suit from G-Force was like $89 for top and bottoms, Shoes were like $60 and harnesses were $110 a piece for camlocks. Not too bad IMO for the qaulity. My seat is Sparco Tourino
