Default Which suspension is good?

Hello Guys/Girls,

First of all, Merry Christmas!!

I have a question. I have a 98 Spec ITR, and the only modification I have is Mugen exhaust system and Spoon Intake. I recently feel the suspension is falling on me as it bottoms out easily.... so had been thinking to get a new set of suspension.

Hope to get some recommendation on suspension. 95% of the time the car sees road use, sometimes aggressive, but rarely go on track. I would like something that is a bit stiffer than the OEM suspension, but will not be too harsh on normal road. What would u recommend??

Thanks very much!!!

Tein SS can also be had for less than 1000...

most simple spring/shock combos will end up lowering your car
and it may not even be a performance upgrade from a new OEM setup...

but i recommend Bilsteins for shocks

I am looking for a spring/coil combo, would like to lower the car a bit as well
Sounds like Tein is not really better than the OEM set?

IMHO, given your budget...i would go with:

bilstein shocks http://www.shox.com
spoon springs or kgmm springs http://www.randdmotorsports.com

Either try used Mugen Lowdowns or a Ground-Control type setup with stiffer springs and shocks.

I used Ground Control coilover sleeves with Eibach ERS springs and Bilstein shocks for a long time before switching to Spoon coilovers.

They are the best bang for the buck.

Wanna buy my old set?

Since you are in Japan, you have the potential to pick up a lot of good dampers used.

I'd go with the Spoon Sports coilovers with a 14/12kg spring front/rear.

If you ever need them rebuilt, just pop them over to Ogikubo.

Agreed. Perfect for the street if you don't plan on doing any hardcore autoX. Tein Basic is my next setup in my car

Like RagingAngel said, you are at an advantage since you live in Japan.

Check out the Yahoo JPN Auctions - you should be able to get a nice set of Tein or Zeal dampers for under JY80000.

Here is the link for Honda dampers/springs

I would suggest that the stock shocks are also very good and worth considering.

Keep in mind that yours (and those of many others with lots of miles on them) are probably worn after many thousands of miles. Many folks are surprised at the difference in their suspension when they go from worn stock shocks to new stock ones, because the new ones are a lot firmer in feel.

However, one advantage of many aftermarket shocks (like Bilsteins) is that they usually last longer and come with a lifetime warranty, which may be important if you plan to keep your car for a long time.

I would suggest the Bilsteins over the stock dampers mostly because of their extended longevity, but that's all I'd do. Bilstein dampers and OEM springs.

I would say GC's and Koni Yellows. I managed to steal my GC's for 100 bucks and Koni's for 250.
<---------- Much happiness happyness happening over here.

I bought Tein Flexes for the simple fact that you can run stock hight and lower it when you want, also you can set your dampering to what you need SOFT or HARD. It also has rust prevention and is only MSRP $1,430. You could get it for less. The whole kit weight is only 40 pounds.

Why!?

Not even adjustable damper
For the price you could build a custom setup with GC sleeves, custom rate Eibach springs, and Koni Yellows with GC adapters for the "full coilover" look.

This will be less than the Basics and will have dampening adjustability also. PLUS, you pick your own spring rates....I'm running 400# front and 500 lbs rear on my EG....which would be a good setup for a street driven ITR, which is heavier
