Acura HQ sheds a little light on production number....maybe...?
I was visiting my family tonight and saw that I had received a letter from Acura's headquarters in CA. At first I thought of how great it would be if it were a very special christmas card pertaining to my mystery of my unknown production number. Nah, all it was, was a stinking mandatory survey I guess they send out when you call them with any questions. Ha I think I might actually send it in.
Here's the hopefull part....they posted all my info and vin number on the header of this letter, and following my vin is a series of grouped numbers that I have never seen before on any document I own for this car.
The number: (vin) B012003-11-2100041 W88-137 T05889
A few months back I read archived posts about someone sending a letter to Acura and a few weeks later he received a letter with his number. Maybe this is close.
I immediately came here to the registry and looked for any like numbers. Type R's number 41 and 137 have not been acounted for...I look more towards the W88-137. but i know that 97 R armrest numbers have 00000 (I think anyway) so perhaps it's as easy as looking at one of these...in this case maybe # 41. ?
The sad part is that I am more worked now about finding out the number than I ever have been. I know most of you will say it shouldn't matter what number it is, and in reality it really doesn't, (especially for a track only car) but I take so much pride in the exclusivity of my 97 that I feel incomplete with not knowing. It's almot as like trying to find your parents or something ....hahah well not really
So now I ask if anyone else has a similar letter and can perhaps cross any of the numbers in that sequence against their own R to see if any of this makes sense.
Well anyway I hope that we all have a safe and happy holiday, hope you all get nice goodies for the R's (can't wait to see the posts tomorrow) .....

If oneone has one to compare they could always call in with some questions so they get the letter too and compare from there.
Maybe try posting in this topic to see if someone with a '97 can help you?

Ya beleive it or bnot, the owner had it for 5 years and doesnt know the number!! he never touched the car except stereo stuff, and is not into cars at all really. He mentioned about having some pictures, but I called him back and he had nothing for me. How do you do that? you see it every time in the car. I'm calling Acura tomorrow to see if I can find out what these other numbers mean.

I know that is page 4 but if you take the time and read that thread, your engine block number will get you close to your car number. I have engine 0061 and car 00057. If you have a low numbered R, you're in luck as you can see what code your block is and check out the thread listing the '97s that Ken (nsxtasy) linked for you. What happened to your armrest/badge?

Thanks for the insight, I am aware that you can get a general idea of what number by the block, although few actually match up, but this is my theft recovered R. . .therefor I have no engine....sucks. I wonder if anyone wouldn't mind checking their number against any documents they might have received from Acura. thanks...
Ahh forget it. I just spoke to Acura HQ and they told me that the numbers supplied on the letter are reference numbers to the initial call that I made. God that sucks...I was pretty excited to find out. Why is it when you call Honda, it's like they know nothing of the actual cars? I'm sure they have plenty of info on warranties, but I would think someone would know more about the actual product, or be willing to help for that matter........sorry just venting.
I post this same information every time I see one of these posts and someone is always there to discount my story, but maybe it will help you.
When I purchased my '01, the dealer told me that the shift **** and armrest were stolen at the port. So, they replaced both, but the armrest had a blank badge with no number. I took it upon myself to call corporate Acura since the dealership had a bunch of dickless monkeys working there.
I spoke to one or two customer service reps who just told me it was the last 4 digits of the VIN. I finally ended up with a rep who knew exactly what I was talking about. He said he had to email Honda of Japan and he would get back to me. Two weeks later, I called him back and he told me the number. They even sent a letter to the dealership. The dealership then called me to inform me of the production number that I had already obtained.
I had a blank badge engraved and that the end of the story. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Thank you Lynx. I have called so many times to Acura HQ. Noone ever knows what I'm talking about. Do you think I should just call and ask to speak to the supervisor? I will find out this number, and then everyone else will be able to do the same. Sounds like Lynx's idea has a chance.
Hmmmm........
Hmmmm........
I was going to say, Acura doesn't know what the production numbers where, but I'm pretty sure Honda of Japan will know, why? Cause they made the frickin' car, Acura is just a facad (spelling?)...
So what is customer service if no one will go the extra mile to help you? Acura USA sucks. Can you beleive he told me to call "Acura of Japan"?!! "You're asking questions about a Japanese Acura, not one made here" what an *******. Anyway I called information and got Honda JPs number. I will try to call later...so frustrated right now.
