cali smog- hybrid veteran help
sup ht-ers. i jus graduated and picked up a job last week. ive had my car for about 3.5 years. the b16 in my car needs to be replaced. i was wondering if i get another sir2 jdm b16, how hard is it to pass a smog referee? i was hoping it would be a walk in the park. does anyone have personal experience?
i want to pass smog legally this time! im determined,
im guessing i would need to buy stock eg6 air box, stock exhaust, and pick up a cat conv.
any info would help, thanks
and does it cost money to go to the ref and get the sticker for engine swap? thanks a lot guys

Dont buy anything for it, just head out there and give it a try, you might pass the first time. I have several friends that have all went there, one friend (i forget his name but hes on this board) has went there twice, and passed both times. He told me a working cat and as long as the car runs hot and not cold it will pass no problem.
I am in the same predicament, only problem is that I am out of the country for the next year and a half, but I am going to have my friend try and take it to get the sticker for it, only thing is that it burns oil like crazy! If it passes, then I am safe, and the motor will be torn apart and a 2.0L high compression beast will be born
Then I'll have it shipped out here to germany for some autobahn action

you'll need the airbox the cat the orginal exhaust manifold (the o2 has to be in the original location for that engine) you want it to look like the helms manual for the del sol vtec, even the little metal tube that goes where you probably have a breather now. run a detergent oil for o couple weeks b4, dump in some injector cleaner a tank b4, and run it hard all the way to the ref(don't let it cool)
what year is your car (it can be hard to find a 93-94-95 B16A sir ll)

my car is 1992. is it that hard to find a 93-95 jdm engine? i thought all those engine shops had them in stock. i want those years because i want it to still be odb1, i read if you have an obd2 engine, you cant convert to obd1, u fail smog right away.
my thought is to swap a new b16 and sc it, or pick up a 1995 gsr. im leaning more on a new engine because its cheaper and i love my blue beast!
so is going to the ref and trying to get a sticker free? or is there an additional charge on top of the smog check fee? thanks

I think its around 8 dollars for just the sticker, maybe more, and the actual inspection costs 30 or so, and if you fail the first time they give you a list of things to fix and you can bring it back again for free.
