Default tilton clutch problems.

ok, so i put my tilton dual disk clutch on...grind the bolts down like they say. grind the plastic in my T.o. bearing.... put it all together...put an axle in the trans...wont turn... take it all apart...what do i see..

here are some pics.

where it hits on the case

the bolts closer to the center(which i grinded down to tilton direction "specs") are hitting on the webbing inside the bellhousing...

what to do.....

1. put a spacer between block and trans..

2. grind webbing inside trans case... <---not too sure about this one.

any idea's guys?

had a problem exactly like this on a twin disc application for 6-speed k series transmissions. just grind down the webbing or have the housing sent back to tilton for remachining.

Uhm, you gotta grind the trans housing mang....

Just grind the webbing, nothing is going to happen.

The instructions that came with my Tilton said to grind the tranny case for clearance, and they showed where to do it.

um what if you grinded the heads of the bolts down a little, a little of the case where the webbing is, and just a small spacer between the trans and block...just a little bit everywhere so you arent trying to get clearance by only doing one

I don't have any experience with tilton clutches, but by looking at the pics, grinding in that webbing wouldn't be an issue, but I do have a problem with the other mark you have, that's right where the bearing for the countershaft sits.

grind the webbing, the casting are pretty thick, another 2-4 mm off isn't gonna hurt it...

even with the trans case being a weak point..especially where a bearing fits into the case?

i didnt have to grind the case on my clutch. i just shaved down the bolts on the clutch cover and that's it. everything turns just fine, and there wasn't anything in my instructions that said anything about grinding. Another thing that might work for you is if you change out the washers under the bolts you grinded to some thinner ones.

Try turning the bolts around, with the nut on the inside. That's what we did on allen's car...

i just got the same clutch for my h22. im sure i will run into the same problem... ahhhh the joys of the performance aftermarket.

BTW in the 3 seperate instructions that came with my kit, there is no where at all that I saw anything about grinding anything. so i had no idea to even expect that...

if the hardware had to be grinded... why wouldnt tilton just assemble the clutch with slightly shorter bolts, thinner washer, and possibly a thinner nut? what gives.

listen to BoostedH22A, he helped design the H22A one with Tilton. I'd trust his word on this one.

Hmm, I waited to reply to this, because I knew that I would be installing my tilton this weekend. and I wanted to see if I would have the same problem...
But, I finished putting mine in today, and I didnt have any issues...

What tranny case are you using? maybe that has something to do with it... Im using a GSR case...
