Please post problems with 3rd / 4th gen or anything relevant
Hey guys,
My dad's POS oldsmobile is on its last legs.
Catch is he cant drive standard, car has to be powerful enough for him to like it and good fuel economy.
I'm suggesting the accord (3rd or 4th gen, $ is an issue), but I'm a little worried about reliability for automatic's. To this date my parents have yet to own an automatic car that hasnt fucked up on them.
Please post problems you've had with the car / auto tranny or anything that would be relevant.

only main problem i've had, was my distributor going out on me, other then that, my 4th gen has been great, aside from the fact that its slow.
distributor went, but was covered by an extended warranty from Honda, they even covered a rental and I had about 80,000 miles on it. CV joint boots were worn out at around 220,000 miles. Everything else is pretty much original. Have heard of Auto Tranny problems but I think if you change the fluid regularly a lot of the issues could be avoided.
And if this can even be a complaint, my biggest one is that the temperature **** breaks pretty much every year. Bad design. I have a spare in the glove box now.

Thats why I`m looking for info on em....I know most of the caveats of the civic....looking for those of the accord
buddys going on 201,045 miles on his original tranny. I think it makes a small clunk when shifting into second, but considering what that car's been through, well, it's a good transmission.
My buddies 87 Accord LX is at 288,000 on the original automatic tranny, and it still shifts flawlessly like brand new. Never opened it up or changed a single thing in it except for regular fluid changes every 15k or so since new. He doesn't drive like no granny either.... takes that thing to redline and it shifts right down like it's supposed to, nice and smooth with no slippage whatsoever.
