pros and cons of forged wiseco or CTR cast....also is it bad to drop in JUST forged pistons and head gasket? im not looking for the most power here but 200ish whp. it will be daily driver and auto-x/weekend warrior car. its for my b18c1
I would just put Itr's in and call it a day....If you run Cams(RS Vtec cams) , headwork, and a good header you can make the 200 you are looking for......
I'd have to agree. The ease of dropping in JDM ITR or CTR pistons will make the piston swap so much easier than a forged piston setup, where most of them require an aftermarket rod as well.
Spend your $$ on tuning, cams and headwork for sure.

why would i need new rods to put in pistons? the ones i had in mind were the IB spec wiseco's 11.8-1. do they need new rods? alsom wouldnt forged be better than cast?....pros/cons>..>?
oh yea, and heres my setup now: apexi intake(cold air soon), Skunk2 stage1 cams, DC JDM 4-1, 2.5 cat, Apexi N1, ACT flywheel. with CTR's, could i hit 200whp w/ tuning?

i agree
but you should get new, bigger cams... the skunk stage 1 is juss like having type R cams

i dont know... the skunks give a nice full powerband as opposed to the extremes of others like jun 3's and skunk stage2. this ar will be used for more auto-x than drag so low end is important to me

I'd throw on some 2.5" exhaust piping as well.

Forged, if spending the extra $2-250 isn't a big deal. Forged is lighter and stronger so it's more resistant to detonation. Ringlands are more sturdy too, so you're reducing the chance of failure. Forged pistons on stock rods would need to be pressed in just like cast pistons, so no difference there. NO cons, except for the price and piston slap during warmup.
The only cons I hear all the time of forged pistons are the rings, alot of the aftermarket piston rings don't seem to hold up at higher RPMs, compare to OEM rings.
I like OEM pistons for durabily but I'm never experience any Honda aftermarket piston, yet, so I don't know of experience, only from my accounts and customers of mine.

well i want to make power to about 9000rpm. will th OEM CTR pistons/rings hold up well, or even better, than the forged pistons? im looking for reliabilty and long term use.
oh and is it necessary to shave the markings that are on OE pistons?
