2nd gear cause the tires spin at a higher speed therefore allowing more smokage

So do you start the burnout with first and then shift to second gear or just drop the clutch in second gear?

just rev it up in 2nd and drop the clutch. Really high hp cars even do burnouts in 3rd.

wouldnt it also drop the rpm's needed to warm up the tires which would be easier on your motor?

You dont need to do a smoke show to get traction when staging. All you need is a light smoke from the tires and your good to go. Start your burn-out just as the smoke starts stop your burn and then stage and thats all you need, anymore than that and it starts to work againts you. Some will disagree but I've done it both ways and I find I have better traction not doing a smoke show burn out.

I always believed that 2nd gear burnouts were to save stress on transmission and axles. I rev 2nd gear to 7,000 rpm with e-brake and drop the clutch and rerev it one more time for more sticky and good luck. great Good Year tire, non John Force burnout.

the gearing in second gear in less torqy allowing a faster rate of spin.......which allows the tire to heat faster and yes its easier on the trans...

i netted 1.7's with dr's with this method.

yea that might work for a high Hp turbo car,but for an 180-200hp NA car wouldn't it burn the clutch out quicker?

I was able to do a 2nd gear burnout in my 180whp hatch as long as I got the tires wet enough first. The way I see it, gears are gears, and a burnout in any gear is fine, as long as you have the power to get the tires to spin. If they catch, or your car bogs...your probably going to break some ish.

I have always done 2nd gear burnouts even on the stock motor. I pull consistent 1.7 60fts using that method.

"2nd is good but, 3rd is thrice as nice" Has always been my philosophy. Except when I was NA . This thread is old as hell btw.

yes that threw me for a loop as well......

last summer i usually just went through the water, pulled the e-brake as i was rolling (since my aem 2step was VIS activated at the time) poped in second, and let it rip for 5-7 seconds...
