it flows better, its close to a type R head if you were to port the bowls (pocket port)

^^ your talking about the ctr head. the ctr head is the same as the itr head except the itr head has a factory port and polish. The gsr head flows about 5% less than an itr or ctr head but it has a "square" shaped chamber which in turn increases compression. I don't know much about b16a heads, but they are similar to the b16b heads. For all engine purposes, the itr head is still better. for forced induction applications the itr is even still the better head because of its increased flow. I guess you could consider the b18c5 head the "rennisance" head

i think he used the b16 head because it lowered compression a bit and made running boost a lil more safe

I wouldn't call that a port and polish i would call it smoothing. Too much money for soo little gain

go the the alaniz site to see the flow chart. THere really isn't much difference at all, but the gsr flows a bit better at mid-lift, and b16's better at high lift. Again, only negligible differences. gsr will give you about .2 more compression though.

I prefer the B16 head minus the cams they suck . All of the intake manis i have are for B16 and Type R bolt pattern.

The combustion chamber design of the B16 promotes more complete combustion when compared to the B18, but not by much. They flow similarly, but the B18 does increase the compression. It's all in what your goals are. For example you'd probably want the B16 head if you were running high boost.

it's been my experience that the B18 head will **** all over a B16 head in the making big power department, especially in a boosted or NOS app. everyone in the Hot Rod class runs it which should tell you something. one thing I like is the placement of the injector in the B18

That is a very good point. One serious advantage of the B18 head is it's ability to create good combustion when combined with flatter pistons, something probably common in the Hot Rod class. by using a high compression flat piston you're getting almost perfect combustion when compared to a domed piston in a B16 head. The simple fact that the B18 head give you higher compression makes this combination possible. There are too many variables to consider when trying to compare the two, so best advice: use what works for you.

HEAD, get in touch with me sometime. I may be needing some headwork in the near future.

in a nutshell, the B16 has the best flow potential of the B-series heads. It outflows the B18c1 head, and most p&p'rs won't port out the ITR head b/c it's already ported the wrong way from the factory (or something to that effect; it has too much material taken out from the bowls, so they can't really do much w/ them)

just get yourself a ctr or itr cam, they are hbte best of the best

flow the best and wil give you a good efficient combustion
