no. you will have more reliable power with the single cam. zc's break and there not always easy to find parts for it. i would wait a bit and get a b16. and an ek b16 head. first gen b16 head design isnt the greatest.
or you could get an ls for cheap and as long as u dont take the stock internals to 8k, u'll be good to go.

reliability is all how you treat the engine. zc parts are harder to find though. also is price an issue? because if its not just go B series

vtec
all i hear is kids buying zc, then it blows up. im sure they would last longer if you didnt beat on it, but (as far as i know) single cams arent blowing up as often. my old d15 lasted till 174,000 and if i change the head gasket, it'll keep going.

Well if you get a decent zc motor, and put a lil time into it like any other motor you wont have any problems

aren't the parts you can use for the ZC the same as other cars? i mean i seen it needs a water pump from a prelude or something. If thats the case why are they hard to find? just gotta mix and match alittle,

Yeah, I'm not understanding why people are saying that it's an unreliable engine. Have never heard anything about it being a less reliable used engine than any others out there. It's a decent improvement over stock, that's the cheapest/easiest swap out there. I've never had any problems with mine, and it's got about 30k and 3 years on it.

yeah, people do tend to be alil hard on the black top DOHC ZC.
this will be my first swap since i picked up my lil EF9 this pass May, and the motor in October
most things i hear about is the timing, mix of parts, and pistion rod weakness

One question i have is, do i have to take the tranny casing off inorder to see if my ZC tranny has the LSD in it?

I had one.... I loved it...
but I got it for cheap and didn't want to deal with smog issues, and I didn't want
to run in SU class any more...

pull out the axles from the tranny and if you can see all the waythrough without a little bar crossing the axle holes, you have an LSD tranny.

You have alot of posts on here to be saying that
DOHC ZC
SOHC ZC
B16/18/20
D16Z6/Y8
Whatever, they all are good motors and you will always find people who hate some and love some.
Bottom line any honda motor is a good motor so pick what you want.

No, it's not worth it. If you have a JDM D15B VTEC in your ride, then you are set. The D15B & The DOHC ZC are so close HP/Tq wise, it's pointless to swap.

also, many people don't go through the time of changing gaskets, plugs, and doing basic maintence when they buy a used ZC(or any other engine) they just throw it in hoping it runs and run the hell out of them.... come on guys, at least take it easy and "break it in"

I cant understand way people are so down on the zc, its been reliable for me and has great touque,i have had one for 4 years not and just recently built it for boost, and now at 6pounds it pulls awesome, at 10 pounds it kicks ***. as long as it tuned properly you will have no problems,i think the b16s are over-rated. i would rather have my non-vtec zc turbo then a b16 anyday.but thats just me

as an owner of both the DOHC zc an now a b16, i will say this, NO ZC BUILT WITH THE SAME MODS I HAVE WILL BEAT MY B16 PERIOD. most poeple say how b16s are **** an the zcs are better, im hear to say, BULLSHIT. a zc will NEVER or have an extremly tough time trying to beat a b16 pound for pound dollar for dollar in the same chasssis. im not saying it hasnt been done. hell i beat a b16 crx in my zc crx by a nose. but , with my b16 crx now, i have NEVER lost to a zc. ZCs are cool motors. great for the price, easier to tune being twin cam an more torque than the single d16a6. if your short on money, definetly a good beginer swap. Personally, having had both motors, i would build the single cam. plus as someone said before the b15b vtec is almost EXACLTY the same hp/tq as a dohc zc. more parts easier to fix. you can get d15 blocks for nothing. you blow a zc block, your either spending 2-300 of stuck buying a whole new motor. same with the zc heads. there are **** available for zcs you just have to look. WEB makes cam regrinds, any b series cam gears fit them, headers are the same as the CRX si, only thing is their really arent any intake manifolds. turbo that zc for some good power, you can build a nice junkyard kit for around $700. but be carefull, zc rods cant hold more than 200hp. but id stick with the Single cam because parts are ALOT easier. IMO

If you are comparing Dollar for Dollar. I know for sure we can do better with the D16A6 compared to the B16 considering a budget setup. up until 5 Grand, then thats when the B16 is able to pump up more hp and potential compared to the D16A6 or ZC

FYI: we have ZC cams available.

I was looking into getting a zc for a while! I was also looking into a sohc VTECH for some time too. The hp/tq rateings are almost the same, It is all according to what you want to do with your car! I put the SOHC VTEC in mine for auto cross, it has lass tq! As for the dohc it has more tq for drag raceing! I have a 90 civic hb, and some hella suspension(mucho denero)! The ZC does have shitty rods, but it also has the extra cam! My buddy has and ef8 with a zc and he only beats me by a fender, but off the line he kills me! With the zc, you don't know what your gonna get, being shipped and everything!

As for a b16, I don't think that they are over-rated, People can just put them in everything know-a-days. There are some turboed b16's here in knoxvegas, and I have to say THAY ARE BAD ***! I would save a little more for a b16! It's a little harder to do than the others, but you'll get alot more RESPECT! Theres my 2 cents!

P.S.- how can I get the TRIAL BULLSHI* OFF. I would like to be able to post more than 5 posts in 24 hours (GAY)!
