Default how many distributors have you killed?

You know it and I know it, Honda distributors suck. my car sat for a few months because of a bad distributor, my friend just killed his third. we are trying to get just one of the four distributors we have to work by swapping sensors ICMs and coils. i feel like taking them out in the back and knocking them into the sky with a baseball bat. of all the people i know that tweak hondas one out of three has had at least one distributor crap out.
thank god for kragen lifetime warranties, they don't ask questions

I have not had one totally crap out on me yet. But my stock Si one has all this red dust on the inside of the cap and it sounds like the bearing is gone on it. So now I have a total of 3 distributors. When I use one of them my tack only works until 5k then it just drops back to 0 rpms. Anyone have an idea what that problem is??

Never had one fail on me, but I have replaced plenty for customers. I even had one on a second generation Integra that was so bad that it caused the timing belt to jump. You could not turn the distributor shaft by hand at all

Over a 3 year span with about 50000km on the odometer, I would say I am on my 3rd distributor... Mostly the ICM is the first to go before anything else with running with the MSD 6AL ans HVC coil. I am probably on my 6th ICM, but I managed to find an aftermarket ICM that can take the heat and stress. My current aftermarket one lasted me 3x longer than any OEM Honda ones and 1/3 of the price.

Moroso now sells a line up of high performance Honda distributors... you may want to look into those as alternatives. King Distributors also sell better distributors with better housings and internals to take the added RPM and heat of most modified Hondas nowadays.

Back in '98, that's the reason I did the first swap on my EF. Distributor crapped out on me, and for some stupid reason while the car was sitting, let one of my buddies talk me into doing the D16Z6 swap. Ever since then, I have rebuilt/replaced about 4 of them. I finally sold the Z6 and am building a B16A for the car. But yes, I agree, F**k Honda distributors.

SIR1 B16 never had a problem except for the rotor screw backing out a few times. Not a big deal though. Rev to 8K all the time.

Wait until yours goes out (hopefully it won't) we first gens dont have the luxury of warranties due to never being sold here. If it ever does go haywire, just find any 90-91 Integra dist. and swap over everything from the 2. It's all the same entirlely except the housing itself. (some models look a little different on the sensors....same though.) I did this 5 times between 4 dist.'s the only bitch was finding a security type torx bit to remove some of the screws, again later gens win (no torx...). I should have just bought a distributor king warranted one...

I had a wire come loose in my 95 GSR distributor, and only once might I add. I bought the distributor used, and have yet to have it crap out. I've just done the normal maintenance on it. Once anything gets a good amount of mileage on it, it will need to be fixed/replaced.

Anything aftermarket rebuilds from Autozone, Discount, Pepboys, etc is ALL JUNK.........PERIOD.

I love it when a guy comes to my counter, bitch about the price of something, goes to Pepboys, realize it lasted 6 months, goes back, gets another one at Pepboys underwarranty, install its and fails on the same day while happen' to rush home to take a **** but now he stuck on the side off the road while hold on to dear life so he won't **** his pants.
Yeah, not going on OEM is the right thing to do, lol.

OEM costs big bux for stupid little parts....

i have an OBD0 car, so finding them for my motor is alot more difficult.

mine failed after about 2000 miles of revving to 10,000rpm

the bearing went bad the rest of the distributor is fine.

also had a 94 del sol VTEC ate 2 coils and 2 ignitors
a mechanic told me that if i had stuffed grease around the bearing it would have lasted..

When my car was OBD 0 i killed 3(smaller bearings dont like rpm)
Since i changed to OBD 1(3yearsago) i never had any problems
Personally i run 100% honda ignition, no amp, ex coil,
Most people that cant keep a disributor in there car are useing an after market ingition. But thats just what ive seen.
