Got a letter from Honda/Acura the other day. The letter basically states that they are "conducting a study of the emissions control system in selected in-use vehicles." also says "upon completion of the test, your vehicle my be taken to a dealer for replacement of certain emission control related parts." And they will give me a list of the replacement parts if anything ware replaced.

Should I do this, since I'm having problems with my cat?

It takes about a week and the compenstions is:

1) Loaner car of current model and full tank of gas
2) perform test when convenient for me
3) return car washed and full tank of gas
4) $100 bucks

I'd do it. But I'd only let them wash my car if they don't wax it.

Make sure you bring it in with a low tank of gas too. :

 

hahahaha, yeah then reccomend to them that for the improvement of emissions and to do your little bit for global warming you recommend a full Mugen induction system!!!

I'd do it if the place was local. Besides, they loan you a RSX Type S to bag around.

I think the letter said they need it for a week.They will be driving it on a dyno not the street.

Emissions huh? Yeah, one look at my non approved hytech setup and they would chit. Don't need anyone to snitch on me.

Then again maybe its a ploy to get us to buy an rsx. One week alone with it, you never know.

Let me clarify. The car will not be driven on the street letter states "The testing is conducted in Honda's Torrence, Cali Lab and consists of measuring the system performance while the vehicle is driven on a treatmill-like devise"

If I got a letter from honda regarding emissions, I'd have them bring their dyno's and "trained" techs to my house so they can do their testing while I watch. I could learn a few things and be sure they put premium in the tank. I wont even get started on them washing my car! Why would it get dirty? A loaner of the same model? Do they happen to have another ITR? sheesh.

 

doubt that they'll loan out a new car,....Honda Verno loaned me a 3 yr old Honda Inspire while my car got inspected......made me apppreciate my car even more...

 

I got the same letter yesterday in the mail. Not sure what to do. I'm gonna call the number today!!!!

 

Put a test-pipe in it and they will give you a free cat!!!

Same letter happened here in Mich a couple of months back. I called the place and talked to the person setting it up in our area and One of my friends actually let them use his ITR. They are testing all 2000 model hondas. The car only had 30 more miles when he got it back and they did't change anything (that they told him) All of the miles are on the dyno and he got everything the letter promised. His car was stock at the time. My car didn't qualify do to the mods but I would not have done it anyway.

Its not the dealer. It is a emmisions testing facility contracted by honda to perform the tests.
