here's the actual gearing differences between the two trannies. in my opinion the H23 tranny is not geared as well as the H22, unless you're making more torque to warrant the drop in rpms.

M2S4 (H23)
1 - 3.307
2 - 1.857
3 - 1.320
4 - 1.034
5 - 0.812
FD- 4.266

M2F4 (H22)
1 - 3.307
2 - 1.950
3 - 1.360
4 - 1.071
5 - 0.870
FD- 4.266

It will never be better.

Anyone who has ever done the swap and used their old H23 tranny has kicked themselves later on down the line when they realize they now want a H22 tranny. Thing is, they're VERY rare to find by themselves, especially if you want LSD. And if you do find one, unless the person doesnt know what they have, youre going to pay a pretty penny to get it too.

if you are going turbo spanishlude...the swap would be awesome cause of the long gear ratios and longer boost. i did that to my motor when i went turbo and it ran like a champ...it was a lot better than running a h22 tranny. but if your going n/a...i wouldnt recommend it

w3rd! That is what i am doing once i get some boost...the auto will not last long after some runs with a 65 shot then selling that and getting a full blown built H22 with turbo..LOL.

for n/a its a no brainer to go with the h22 gears but for boosted I dont know if I would trade that extra torque for a few more seconds in gear, tough call. Would have to pull out the calculator and punch away

I have done this. (h22 with a h23 manual) I DON"T like the gearing. I have a Supercharger on mine and have more torque also. Just doesn't matter. I used to be a hard core drag racer. The numbers just don't lie. The h22 is better. Constantly in V-tec and better power band. Weather you're turbo or not. The 1/4 times will be faster with the h22 manual. Add a limited slip and you're stylin. I have my redline set at 8100. It still falls on it's face from first to second. Yeah it still spins the street tires when I shift, but after they're through spinning, I wish I was higher in the rev range where I can feel the larger power surge at 5500 rpms. To shift into that is Bliss.

With Slicks, It all makes a huge difference. you really notice the drop in RPM's and power when you shift into 2nd. But, that's just me.
