Default Two Questions: Just had the valves adjusted at the dealership...

Anyway, ya, just had the valves adjusted because they have been tapping a bit at certain rpm's (between 2 and 4, always when accelerating) and it it like turning the chatter on and off precisely depending on if you were accelerating or at continuous speed. SO, been doing this for a couple months, I take it in to the honda dealership and they adjust them. Still does it, but not as bad, and can be heard best when the car is still warming up. BTW I have right around 130,000 on it, and its a 94 LX.
Should I take it back and have them do it again? or should I just assume that a B2 will do this? It just started, and I have never been low on oil or anything.
next question: Would replacing the shift cable on my tranny make it shift smoother, or is that solely a problem with syncrow. When I say not smooth, I mean that there is a bump you have to sortof "push" past in second, and sometimes reverse is hard to get into. and somehting really odd, 3rd lets off a tiny little hint of a grind sound, but its only done it like 3 times over like a year. worry about it?

thanks, sohc

there are no cables to adjust. Sounds like you could use a tranny fluid change if you haven't done so in awhile.

The first problem seems to be very common among accord owners.. my engine is pretty damn noisy even after a valve adjustment. It could possibly be the fuel injectors.. I'm gonna run some bg44k through and see if it helps.

did you let your car sit overnight before the dealership adjusted valves?

Yes i did. letting the car sit overnight is the right way. I would not let the dealership re-adjust unless you want to. The BOTTOM line is HONDA ENGINES are just NOISY especially with age, miles, and morning start-ups. Toyotas are very quiet even with ALOT of miles.

My 95 EX is the same. With a single cam and 16 valves there is a lot of valve gear to make noise. Especially when cold this engine really clatters, even when properly adjusted. With only a thin rocker cover and no hood insulation, the noise is really obvious. This is still one excellent engine, so no complaints from me.

Have a great Christmas everyone.

Ya, the dealership let it cool down before they did the adjustment, and I just changed my tranny fluid like 5K ago... As for the cable, dont you just have to replace it, its not possible to "adjust" it I think...

haha, anyone else have the dealership put to much oil in when doing the change?? Mine was 1/2 quart over!! I usually change my own, but just had them do it cus it was like 14 bux and its cold out. It just pisses me off...
