Has anyone cut their springs?
I want to cut the rear springs and lower my front tortion bars to make it a bit more aerodynamic, and have a lower ride, but Is the ride gonna be crappier than it is already? And If I do, do I have to worry about the springs becoming dangerous, like falling off, or dropping the car, or will I have to align the car again?
I am only lookin for maybe an inch drop in the back and maybe 1 1/2 in the front.
I don't really care if the ride is a bit more harsh, just not TOO harsh you know?
Probably a stupid q, but I dunno ***** about susp.

I forgot to mention whether this would help me a bit in the 1/4. I know it'll be a little more aero and the *** probably won't squat as much, but did it help any of you?
i've cut spring before, the ride is worse, mostly due to the shocks being farter down in their travel. you'll probably need to get it aligned, but its not dangerous in any way. btw, is this on a 1st gen crx/ 3rd gen civic? if it is there is a faq about lowering them at redpepperracing.com

mos def... if u dont got the cash for some lowering springs/coilovers then dont touch the suspension at all, itll be worse

So how will it be worse, besides the ride quality? I think I said it before, I don't really care how it rides, just lookin for a lower look and maybe .1 or less secs off my et because it'll be a lil more aero.

when you cut the springs with a torch they get to hot and you loss spring rate so the ride is awful, i have heard of people putting the springs under water and cutting them to keep the temp down but either way you will pro regret doing it
Dont do it!! just get some used lowering springs in the classifieds. Your messing w/ spring rates too. and if you mess your camber up too much it will hurt you, if anything, in the 1/4 ..
I have no problems with lowering springs just do it right i have run on cut springs on every car i have ever owned and the ride quality is in fact better than the springs i have always put in (heavy *** rated springs, drag car baby!
) but if it is just temporary like mine have always been i would say go ahead and do it nothing your gonna hurt anymore than putting lowering springs on stock shocks.

Cut springs are total crap it does not cost much to get proper lowering springs or even coil overs. What value do you put on our life?

WTF are you talking about? i see no dangers in it AT all pal.
It isn't like i am cutting off 4 or 5 coils just like a 1.5 drop all the around there is nothing dangerous about that unless you are a total moron when doing it and cut them on the car with a torch.
Enlighten me why it is SO DANGEROUS

People cut them so that they are no longer held captive, just the other day some ricer died because a cut spring popped out when he was trying to turn a corner..
Cutting coils off your stock springs will cause them you to run out of dampening in a real hurry. Yes I know shocks are what actually does the shock absorbing.
Why are you going to reccomend it when proper lowering springs cost so little?
Its basically a old dumbass ricer thing to do.
