Help out a noob in Audio (amp question)
I got a sony mp3 deck along with pioneers all around. Yesterday when my friend say in my car, he suggested I get an Amp to make it sound better. I have always thought that an amp only powers the sub but never knew it can make speakers sound better. I DO NOT plan to get a sub anytime in the future since my car is slammed enough as it is.
So do you guys think I should get an amp? (cuz i'm still unsure how much greater sound quality would I get)
And also what brands to stay away from since I see a lot of cheapos on ebay.

i would definately get an amp for the speakers. An amp will power any speaker but it your deck happens to have a built in amp. A decent 4 channel amp will make a world of difference.
Definitely get an amp. Make sure it's 4 channels, and basically, if you want the best quality amp, don't get anything that you can get at Best Buy. I like Kicker, Alpine, and JL Audio the best
I got this deck in my car, SONY CDX-M850MP.

Specs says it has a built in 4 way amp but I should still get the amp right to make it sound better?
Also can someone explain how an amp makes speakers sound better if they got the time. Thanks

let me try. It's sort of like hp for a car. If you drive a 1970 VW Beetle with a stock motor. It is very hard for it to travel at 80 mph continuously but a 2000 Prelude woud not have any problems with that task. The more power you have the less distortion it puts out at normal listening levels. Most radios will only really do 10-15 watts of power before starting to distort really bad. Get something with a clean 50 watts per channel r.m.s. there are still quite a few companies that make good products just do some homework before you buy anything.
