Default compatible parts for the accord . . . . .

i may have my chance at getting a 1990 accord ex for dirt cheep, but it needs a new tranny and a tune-up. i have a 90 prelude 2.1 engine in my garage that is a dohc. can i put the dohc head on the accord? will it fit, will it have any problems? i don't want to spend the money on getting a vtec head, and the sohc non-vtec head that is on it is ok, but i am interested in making it at least dohc for now.

the other question is, since this is an automatic (bleh!) and the prelude is also an automatic, does anyone know if the wiring will plug into the ecu for the tranny from the prelude to the accord? i plan on changing the accord shifter to the sports shifter that came stock on the prelude, which means changing a little bit of the wiring anyway. i figure i need to use the ecu for the prelude tranny when i put it in the accord, so i may as well make it worth it and give it the sports shifter.

am i going too far? should i just not bother with this car? or do you think it will be worth making the sohc 2.2 accord into a dohc 2.2 accord with the sports shifter option? help me out guys - i am new to accord info. i just know enough about preludes and crx's to get what i want out of them. what should i do with this accord, if i get it?

I don't know man. That sounds like a lot of work. I don't think that 90 Prelude engine is a direct bolt in. I also doubt that head will fit on the Accord's block (should be an F22). As for the tranny/ECU, I have no clue.

i am not looking to put the prelude engine into the accord, just the head and the tranny. i am pretty sure the tranny will bolt up, but i was just curious about the head.

In general B-series motors have nothing that match up to F-series motors (3g, 4g, 5g, and 6g Accords and early 4g Prelude Ss) or H series motors (4g and 5g Preludes).

no, it won't fit... although the bolts will line up, the different head will not use all the ports in the block (or vice versa, i can't remember). unfortunately, you can't bolt a H22 head on to a F22 block for the same reason.... (i hope this makes sense, i'm having trouble transpiring my thoughts into words)....

I think you're trying to say the coolant passages won't line up between the block and head?

he's right, but i'm not sure the bolts would even line up, but the pins might.
