Default type s connecting rods ARE different than USDM, right?

hey guys, been lurking and reading for almost a year now, it was finally time...

I need rods that will fit typeS with no machining. I called Dynamic in California tonight and they said USDM rods are the same as TypeS. I thought typeS had a different pin design and able to handle more hp?

(block ripped open: stage2 crowers cams and springs/retainers, cam gears, type s oversized pistons, neuspeed 2" drop uch:, AEM cai, and umm KoRn in CD player... )

They have floating wrist pins.. I mean you can waste little cash on rods but I would not.

1.) Aren't the typeS rods supposed to come out of a motor that makes 220hp? (I have no aspirations to go any higher, I'll be lucky if I get even close to that )

2.) For me, less machine work the better, less things to go wrong. Crower and eagle have to be bored out slightly to accept stock pins as per this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=307265

still learning, correct me as needed.

YEP.. Like a said keep your stock rods save you some cash.. Buy a set of Crower stage 2 or Skunk2 cams.. Personally I like crower. Get a vtec controller. This is cheap way.. by the way..

cool beans. now I gotta find some typeS rods...

and I have crower cutting me stage2's with stage1 idler lobes cuz I read about people's bad idling problems. On the other hand I didn't want to spend all that money and not gain a damn thing below vtec if I got the stock idle version. So now I can say it's a "custom" grind from brian crower himself.

and why is it so damn hard to find oversized pistons in the US? I gotta wait at least 4 weeks at the three places I've looked online.

i wouldn't waste money buying type-s rods. They are the same thing as the h22a4 rods. And if you have the h22a1 rods, you can always get them rebushed for not too much to accept floating pins.

If h22a4 = typeS then thats great. How would someone be sure they get h22a4 and not h22a1's?

Also, where can I find eagle rods? if I have to have something rebushed it might as well be eagle, because crower are too damned expensive.

Do the Type-S motors have the bigger or smaller journals?

If they're the bigger journals, you'll have to get a set of earlier H22 rods and have them machined for the floating wrist pin.

only the main jounals are larger, the rod journals are the same.i say just get a set of eagles. You can still use the stock wrist pin on those rods.

Well, TypeS rods look so weak, just like OEM. (edit: cuz they are , well sort of...) So it's not worth it. Also, I see all you guys talking about 300hp and then having the rods stretch/break... I'll be more than happy with my crower stg2 cams, typeS pistons, and MAYBE 50 shot of nitrous in future. Would my projected horsepower range require that I spend the extra $300 for good crower rods? I really don't think so, but what do I know...

Right now I'm looking into eagle extreme TypeS rods. Or maybe regular eagle typeS rods for $310 from sparkracing.

Or maybe I'll get crower econo and tell my "domestics only" machine shop exactly what to do. Pray for me...

Thanks guys for all your help.
