Sparco Seats and cage? anyone have probs with clearance on side bars?
Well i was doing some quick glances at fitment with some sidebars for a cage tonight. i just took the jack handle and kinda positioned it right below the bolster as high as i can go. and im sure it wont meet req's where i had it and the door wont even shut ,not enuff clearance.I would hate to sellthese. Can anyone share any experiences with these or let me know of aftermarket racing seats that i can squeeze something thru ?
Thanks.
Thanks.
here is a pic of ron's car, you are going to want to think about doing a bar that bends similar to his door bars so that you maintain enough height that it will pass between your elbow and your shoulder and then turn down toward the floor. They don't have to start out so high but you should get the idea. I recently did a similar thing in a supra with a swingout.
im actually talking to Ken's now about this i sent him this pic and he said he can do that , it does have to start that high though. it wont pass under the bolster without hitting the door panel
Im actually redoing my cage, and its going to come down a little lower. The top of the seat has like 2 points that stick out, and the cage is going to go between the 2 points this time, instead of ontop of them all. It still, however, will have to be bent a little bit because of the door.
my friend has that same seat, you can get away with that with ytours, my bolsters are bigger, the way it sits now, the top bolster rubs on the door panel. thats where my prob is, i cant even really recline the seat i [paid buco $$$ for to recline
I had the exact same problem with my race car. after having the cage put in, i put the sparco rev seat in only to find out that the damn Side "wing" if u would call it that would hit my funny hoop. so i went ahead and cut 1 part of the funny hoop out and rebent another to clear it. i'll post a pic when i get a chance.

I have Sparco EVO's in my car. My door bars only needed a very slight bend in them to clear both the seat and the door panel. You can see in the pic the bend in the door bar is right about even with the top of the passenger side arm rest on the door panel. The door bars are the right height for me because I'm only 5'7". I could see how it might be a problem if you need to mount the door bar higher to pass mid-way between your shoulder and elbow as required by the rules.
It passes tech just fine. The door bar points inwards from the main hoop, then bends back outwards after it passes the door panel arm rest. 2.2LCivic, there are a few more pics of my car on my cardomain site: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/467839/1.

I dont know if its legal but this is how we made mine. We had to go in between the ear and a recess on the door panel.
