WTF is going on???
hey, I just did a mpfi swap today in the freezing cold. I was working on kilohead36's car and after we wired everything up and put all coolant and vacuum hoses we went to start up the car and BAM! Fuel squirting out all over the place. It was coming out of the top of the injectors in between the fuel rail and top of injector. So, after spending about 8 hours doing this swap with basic hand tools we were both disappointed of the outcome. Does this mean he needs a new fuel rail or injectors? Do they have o-rings on the top of the injectors? Maybe those went bad? Hes also getting code 10 and 20. I feel so sick after staying out in the freezing cold. Hopefully I can finish his swap by Monday. BTW, this is my second time doing a MPFI swap... TIA guyz!
There are rings that go around the top of teh injectors where it goes into teh fuel rail, and there are also o rings that go into the intake manifold where the injectors seat into, id go ahead and say that you probably didnt squeeze them in good enough or there bad. HTH
i pressed them on as hard as I can. Since the injectors are squirting from the top between the fuel rail and top of injctors I'm guessing its the upper o-rings?

Yup.. If you dont lube the o-rings they probably will pop of when you slide the injector into the rail.. It did it to me.. Use some hand ivory hand soap on the seals when you put them in and youll be good..

Wow, that would have saved some time and about a $35 trip to Honda.

But its fun to go there and talk to the friendly, knowledgable parts department people

That was actually a joke.. Most times I go in there they have the parts stuff all messed up.. Like once I asked for a valve cover gasket for a 5th gen prelude.. They asked me what year.. I said 2001.. They said it was out of stock.. I then said what about the one for the 1997 prelude.. They said that was in.. They are both exactly the same part..
hey grease monkey make sure once you replace the o ring on that injector that when you goto tighten down the fuel rail that you dont tighten down as tight as you can that will blow the o rings or break a stud remember hondas are made of aluminum and you cant over tighten things just get them snug the o rings will keep it from leaking...................
To lubricate fuel system orings I like t use vasoline (petrolatum). This is what we use in aviation. It washes away easily after install and will not clog fuel systems. After it breaks down it will just go away and not leave residue which engine oil can. However, engine oil on car fuel system parts is probably not bad.
Vasoline also is great to hold seal, gaskets and washers in place during tough installs and its good for your skin!
