Heat Shield Needed For JDM 4-1 Header?
So I have seen pictures of the guys with the Mugies and Spoonies and they don't have a heat shield on them.
I have the JDM 4-1 header with Jet-Hot coating to help contain the heat even more. Do I still need the heat shield? I only ask because mine rattles a little and I either have to try to find some screws ot fit it, or take it off. I'd rather do the latter, but am worried about the radiator getting too hot from header or other problems.
Any suggestions guys? Can I take the heat shield off?

I don't think that you'd have any or too many adverse affects without it.
I had a very reputable Race shop install my Spoon and they were more concerned with the header heat affecting the AC lines than the radiator. They installed an aluminum hose protector to help with my AC dilemma. They also needed to cut my under radiator plastic fairing to fit the header and not let it touch and melt.
I don't think the shield in neccessary " of course I could be wrong," I also had a different header on my old Ls. It does serve some sort of purpose. One joy of having the JDM piece is, certainly, being able to conceal it! At least IMHO.
Good luck,
A.

Underhood temps are *greatly* reduced with the JDM header heat shield in place. Could potentially keep your intake from getting quite so hot, among other things. Happier AC, maybe even protect paint on hood (doubt that's much of an issue).
But you're right - it's mainly stealth. I had many people walk by my car at NOPI and comment "just an intake..." A few folks knew enough to look around the side - you can still see the primaries on the left and right
