Modding a car sure is frustrating especially if you don't know what you want to do
I've already had several post on engine building options and such. I just can't make up my mind. Sometimes I want to build it with really nice internals keeping it 1.8liter, then sometimes I'm just like "screw it, this thing is getting sleeved for 2.0liter duty". I'm constantly researching and punching the numbers and now I'm thinking once again of just doing a basically stock OEM rebuild with JDM ITR pistons and a thinner head gasket to take a little more advantage of my cams (skunk stage ones).
I've been driving my new beater car alot lately and it makes me realize how awesome the R is in its current form. I guess when you drive an R 30,000mi a year you get used to it until you are deprived/drive something else for an extended period. I also want to make it more of a track car (not fully, but way more devoted than it is now since I just bought a beater). If I focused on a stock rebuild it would be cheaper, meaning I could spend more money on other things sooner (tires, brake pads, etc).
What I want to know is if I don't rebuild it baller style
will I regret it down the road? I will have a constant flow of money from a good job, but going with an expensive setup will still take more time in saving that I could be using on the track/auto-x.
My mindset right now is rebuild it OEM style with a little raised comp. Slap on a PE timing belt and a baffled oil pan for a little security, especially since I'll have the extra money. Get it tuned right, then start tearing up the track and using my extra money for stuff that does more than make me go fast in a strait line.
Any of you road racers out there regret using OEM when you've had the chance to upgrade?

If and when it's my turn to do a rebuild, I'll probably go all out. It's better than left wanting for bigger/better parts later and kicking yourself in the **** down the road.

Lol. I remember getting one check and thinking how bad I wanted a decent header (i just knew the R could hit 13's with one) then remembered how I had no food in the fridge and was getting quite tired of Ramen noodles.
Needless to say I was running 13's the following weekend, but on an empty stomach.

well, you do have a beater car now so downtime won't be a hassle. i'd go all out if i were you. you also said the money is right, my opinon might not mean much since i don't road race (yet) but that's what i'd do if i were in your position
