Default Need recent car security advice only from ITR owners

I'm going to be picking up #50 ('97) next week and need some advice from fellow Type R owners. The last ITR I had came with an alarm but unfortunately, I don't have this luxury upon purchase this time and in light of all the theft bs lately, I need to set this as my first priority upon purchase. So if you guys could take a monent to post some suggestions for a decent alarm setup I'd appreciate it. I'm probably going to install keyless, remote start and maybe the pager feature. I was thinking Viper 571 or something DEI. I'm open to other suggestions though. If you remembered what yours ran in price include that too to give me some idea. I've spent some time searching but've only found irrelevent info.
thanks!!!!!!

car covers are awsome security devices

but can also be hard on your paint if your car isn't clean

my y2k r had an alpine unit in it, very nice w/ perimeter sensor, and my 98 had a dei that worked really well, both i believe were @ $300 . just out of curiosity, what did you end up paying for that car. i saw that he wanted 18,900 for it?

get a decent alarm with a back-up battery including the sensors or whatnot. also, you'll need an ignition kill with that. then do yourself a fuel cut-off, autolock, club, relocate your hood cable, and always keep your car in a garage. oh, get yourself the RS door handles and disable the powerlocks.

I use a hood lock from Dei's part list. It was like $75.00. You can install as if it were a dead bolt under the hood. A thief would have to destroy the hood to get underneath. It also can be wired to your alarm.

Secondly, I recommend a tilt sensor added to your alarm. If the car it picked up by a tow truck, the alarm will set off. Not a guarantee, but I doubt a thief would want to drive down the street with an alarm blaring. Interior pain killer sirens are worth while. My battery died recently and I had to put the car in valet manually after I replaced the battery. Those damn things were literally rattling my skull.

I also like the idea of a pager alarm . A thief is not going to know if an owner is in paging range most of the time. A professional would most like notice the alarm antenna and may be detered.
Good luck

this is what i would suggest.

1. lojack or other satellite tracking ( gps not reliable)
2. g5 clifford 750 or higher. or equal system.<< make sure you have anticarjack feature which these do.
3. club automatic hoodlock (keep in mind the manual hood locks are easy to bypass)
4. and wheel lock like mine... cost $600 bills but is tamper proof. same as the city used ones. and put your car in first gear and put on back wheel. that way if they need to tow the car they will have to spend the time to break window , open door and then put car out of gear... if you put it on the front tire and in gear, they will just tow the car from the front without wasting anymore time.
5. several hidden kill switches
6. and if your really paranoid you can buy a wireless video camera for your inside car and wire it up to your vcr in your house. that way you have a video of whos outside your car...

but i would say getting the tracking device is key,,, but thats just my opinion..

I wonder how much one of those would cost.

I got him down to $17350. I had to take put two loans to buy one car. It's only "worth" $13,300 so I took out a personal loan for the difference until I sell my GS-T. It kills me that Nada thinks that they can value such a rare car. Picking it up Monday night!!!!

1.) Garage

2.) If no garage, choose a gated community

3.) Wheel Boot by alpha lock, turn front wheel to left or right, put on wheel boot. Cant access your lug nuts when the wheel is cranked to either direction.

4.) Clutch Lock

5.) Alarm that goes off on tapping surface, preferably LoJack with "Early Detection". You can't drive the car unless you have your transmitter on your key chain or somewhere inside the car. If someone starts your car with out the transmitter LoJack is contacted as well as the police and tracking begins after you authorize it.

6.) If you are in the high theft areas, do NOT drive your car to public places, no malls, no gyms, no school functions, NO WHERE. Drive it for fun and thats it.

p.s I did all of this, and someone still tried to break in. They must be morons, my car is going nowhere unless its on a flat bed.

I believe in security in layers.

Which means a Mossburg 500 for the intimidation factor, then a pair of CZ 9mm for getting 30 pieces of lead in the air, then a .308 to chase them down the block

But really - security in layers meaning do all that you can to DISCOURAGE the amateur and DELAY the more skilled.

The basics = hood lock, RS door handles (inside), kill switch. Club-type stuff for visibility.

More advanced = pimpy-*** alarm, all the other stuff.

Best = garage with armed guard.

That's the conclusion I'm coming to! I got video cameras, ignition kill, fuel cut off, blah blah and my car's gone! I'm going to get either LoJack or a Viper the day next week when I get the car anyway.

Yeah I think showing off is a major reason many of the R's get swiped. The only person I have to impress is myself when auto-x season rolls around. But hey, we all work hard to pay for our vehicles so we should be able to show them off if we wanted w/ out some ******** taking our pride & joy in the middle of the night! Dammit, I hate hearing the horror stories involving theft.

I have the DEI w/responder tech. works great. I would also add some type of killswitch, removable steering wheel etc.

Another company to check out is Global Trak.
http://global-trak.com/

Their alarm has GPS tracking ability and also the following features

Remote Dial Lock/Unlock
Crash Notification
External Reserve Battery
Stolen Vehicle Tracking
Customizable email event alerts
Alarm Disruption notification
Remote Diagnostics
Remote Horn/Lights
Starter Enable/Disable
Fuel Line Disable
Virtual Odometer/ Hour Meters
Internet Location Access
GPS and Cellular Enabled
Vehicle Locating Without Filing Police Report

Looks great IMO. I got a quote on it when I first picked up my car and it was 400 installed w/100/yr fee.

i've removed my front tow hooks (2 bolts each) and his them inside my car just incase i ever did need a legit tow. not saying this can prevent from an unwanted tow but it'll certainly slow it down, alot
