2004 Dyno results w/ review from TOV
Thought this was interesting, apologize if its a repost. Mods please delete if so.
Kinda cool because they don't use a chassis dyno, but the one that goes off the hub (the name escapes me atm) so its more accurate - basically no chance of wheel slip.
Here is overall link.

it's cool, the article wasn't posted up directly or linked here yet. I know the person that ran the tests and he is a very knowledgable person when it comes to accuracy of testing procedures. Since the article was published, other dyno's have been done with different results. The more '04 s2k's dyno'd will give a better understanding of how much more power they are making. It's hard to base something off of a few dyno plots. One thing is certain, the new s2k does make more torque.
We're hoping to get a couple of Bay Area 04 Owners together soon to do some dyno testing of our cars with a couple of older models as well.
Hopefully we'll be able to put the horsepower controversy to bed once and for all.

I don't think there is a hp controversy. Just a bunch of '03 and under owners upset that the '04 makes more torque, which it is advertised to do. There will always be discrepencies b/w the the model years, for stock to stock, an '01 has seen 10hp less on the dyno than an '03 so it's really moot to compare the two other than lap times which it's already been stated the '04 is easier to drive and hence lap times should be quicker.

I wouldn't characterize this as a controversy either, however I wouldn't say it's a bunch of earlier model owners upset about the '04 which does in fact deliver more torque. This isn't to say there aren't some owners that are somehow threatened.
The real issue was a reported increase in '04 HP reported by TOV. It appears the HP increase wasn't a dyno anomaly but more likely a "ringer" press car supplied by Honda. So far none of the '04 customer cars dynoed elsewhere have reproduced the HP results found by TOV.
Beyond the initial issue several interesting comparisons have been drawn. The new '04 engine is only delivered in the states while the older 9K version is sold worlwide. Presumably the new engine addresses the "low torque" complaints voiced frequently by US drivers. Several dyno plots are now taking the gearing and redline differences into account in an effort to guage how the differences will equate to on the road performance gains. There is no question that the '04 offers more torque as advertised. A road test will further define how the torque translates into demonstrated performance. On the other hand it may be possible to use the older cars higher readline and taller gearing to an advantage since redline shifts will stay within VTEC. A few plots were taken from older cars with aftermarket gear sets coupled with the higher redline. These cars had a slight advantage over the '04. There should be plenty of fuel for discussion on this matter. Despite all of this the fact remains that the '04 car is what you'll get in the US if you're interested in a new S2K.
