Default 1998 Accord V-6 Alternator issues/questions

My mom's 98 Accord V-6 the battery light is on, tried replacing the battery given it is 7 years old now and at 97,000 miles, but it seems the altenator has decided that it's not going to work any longer. Gotta love it when Honda puts GM parts in an Accord, Delphi is apparently synonmous with POS. It's also making a bad noise so it's got to be the alternator.

Anyhow that aside, I'd like to change it myself but wanted to be sure that there were no surpises since once I have it off I can't drive the car. I did a search which had a dead link to a "how to" so was wondering if anyone else would have a link. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If we had known that the v-6 used a Ford Instrument cluster and a GM alternator we would have stuck with the 4 cylinder! Anyhow thanks in advance.

Is there any other brand I can look for in an alternator besides the Delphi one that Honda wants to sell me?
