Default Mad dash... and I'm not talking about running anyone.

My dash has started to act a little odd. When we cranked it last night everything was cool. Then, I noticed my clock started to flicker. Then it stopped.
After 1/2 hour, it flickered, then went off, then on, then off for a second, then on again. WTF?
The rest of the lights flickerd dim then bright once or twice in quick succession, and the rest of the night it was fine.

This morning, I crank it, and it's fine. I let it idle for a half hour or so, and it's all good. I get BACK in it, and the clock shuts off, then on, then off, then my tach needle DROPS TO 0, then back to normal, then 0 again, then the clock comes back on, and the tach comes back up. Come to think of it, it started when I tossed it in reverse this morning... and maybe even last night.

WTF is up with my dash? Bad circuit board? Anyone know where this board is and how hard it is to get out? How much if I gank one from a junkyard? Estimates?

Any educated guesses at what is up with this posessed car?

Thanks
Todd

Not that I'm helping but I just wanted to point out that Todd is actually asking someone for help.

Very funny on the Fonz front Todd!
I'm going to state the obvious here and say you have a lose connector or dash fuse. If it's not the fuse or the easy to get at connectors then get someone who fits alarms system to motors to have a look as these guys are in the dash all the time and will probably know where to look for lose wires/connectors etc. If you have had an immob fitted recently then the guy who fitted it has probably knocked someone slightly out of place.

PS. That is one seriously good looking Lude Todd!

Thanks, but the Lude looks like AZZ. lol It gets some paint and love this winter after race season.

It has to be a loose wire... God I hope.

Which ECU is in the car when this is happening? The original P13?

er.. no, the Del Slow. maybe that's the answer. I SO just totally overlooked that.

Now I feel like a jackass. Ignore this and I'll get back with you all when I have a REAL ECU IN MY CAR and see if it's still happening.

I feel retarded now.

Dayum JG, are you on here 24/7?

I had the same symptoms on my 5th gen Prelude when my stock ECU fried itself...

Check to make sure your alternator is still charging the battery. That recharging is something that the ECU controls.

I have seen this problem on many of Nissan Altima's due to a problem with the ignition switch.. you could actually fiddle with the key in the ignition and make every interior electrical component go dead but yet the car would keep running like normal..

Listen to Skyline.. I have also seen this same problem occur on Preludes due to a poor connector fit in the dash fuse box.. not a result of the connector but due to the fact the wire harness is so tight in the Preludes...

Actually, yes! I challenge anyone to eat, sleep and breath H-T and Preludes as much as me. j/k

Well, I'm with akluc.... it's the ECU. It didn't start until the ECU... how do I put it... afro rigging. (Hey, that sumbitch rolls doesn't it?) You are also correct about the alternator, however, we've checked that and it's charging my systems fine. We did tests at the fusebox, battery, the alternator itself, and I think Don tossed the voltmeter on a few other thinsgs when I wasn't looking.
Like I said, I get the REAL ECU back soon, and then let the torture on local V8's begin!

double check the connection from the ground on the battery to the block...i've seen that cause some "wacky stuff" to occur.
