how can i tell the difference btwn type S and h22?
im planning to pick up a JDM prelude type S motor, but to prevent any misidentification between the type S and the regular jdm h22a motor. what are the visual differences that i can use to make sure that im getting what im paying for? in addition, in the USDM motors, whats the difference between the type SH motor and the regular USDM h22a4 motor?
Most importantly, the Type S should have a Red Valve Cover and if you are picking it with a tranny it should be ATTS. If you are picking an S-Spec motor, it should also have the Red Valve Cover but should have an LSD tranny.
Between the Base USDM H22A4 and Type SH the major difference is the ATTS, and some other differences but those are because of the ATTS.

if thats hp rating, i already know that, i just needed some visual confirmation. such as the stamps on the head and block that might be different. how do i know if the tranny has atts? i know if you look at the axel hole, there shouldnt be a bar there.
JDM type-s (the 220hp with ATTS) has "P5P" cast on the back of the block directly behind clyinder #3 just right of where the oil filter would be on a base model. the only problem is if the engine is complete, I think that the ATTS unit is directly in front of that. If the head (red valvecover) is off the 11:1 pistons are obvious with "P5P" cast into the top of them. The head is mildly ported If you can look behind the valves, or down the ports. I have pics but have no host if you are interested in what I am talking about I can email them. HTH
