Default wheel question for all with 17"

i know most of you like the 16" rims but i kind of like the 17" rims. on a teg that is dropped about 2.5 - 3" what is the best tire size for a teg with out having to role the fenders. right now i have the stock 15" ls mesh wheels with stock tires. right now i have about a 0-1 finger gap on both the front and back wheels. are the 17" rims going to be too much.

I had 215/40-17 on my old EX with a 2" intrax drop and they were perfect. No rubbing and they had a little thicker sidewall so they didnt blow out as easy on the lovely streets of PA.

3" drop is kinda drastic. I have a 1.75" drop and it barely tuckes the front tires, and leaves the rear fenderwell right on top of the tire. I have my normal set of 17's with 205/40, and I also have a set of 18's with 225/35 and they don't rub either.

you should be good with 205/40/17, mine don't rub at all. . . don't get 215/40/17's, had those on to and they rubbed when i was taking corner or hit bumps every once in a while.

the offset of the 17" rims you are looking to purchase will greatly affect whether the tires will rub or not.

say:

205/40/17, 17X7 rims with 35 offset WILL rub.

while

205/40/17, 17X7 rims with 40 offset WILL probably rub

while

205/40/17, 17X7 rims with 45 offset will probably NOT rub

and

205/40/17, 17X7 rims with 50 offset will NOT rub

make sense? read up about offset and then decide

When you say rub, you mean on the inside of the wheel well correct (towards the engine)?

And the bigger the offset the more the wheel will be pushed out away from the car correct?

205-40-17's on my integra... lowered with eibach sportlines (about the same as neuspeed race) and koni yellows on front lower perch and rear middle perch... no rubbin except when wheel is fully cut... rubbing is up front on fender lining... really not that bad (very slight) and like i said, only when you cut the wheel all the way.

-Erik <--- btw, riding 17x7 konig tantrums with an offset of 40

EDIT: Wheels sit beautifully in wheel well imo, not too far out, not too far in... just perfect

Your wheel offset and camber will decide what does and does not rub. I'm sure I can fit 235's if I run -4°.

Currently I'm using 215/40-17 and do have some rubbing in the back. I'm also running -.70° camber on a very mild drop.

Synik, you have the exact wheels I want, those are like the Buddy Club's P-1 II's. My car is also white, and I love those wheels on a dropped teg, I would get a type R lip to make the front end look that nice.

Oh and my friend has 17's on his with like a 2 inch drop, and his tire size is a 205/40, and he never rubs.

What about ppl who want more than a 205 tire? Can it be done on 17s? or does that force me down to a 16" wheel to run wider than 205?

I'm running 17x7.5 40 offset with 215/40/17 Toyo Proxies. The car is lowered 1.75-2 in on Tokico Illumina Comp. Coilovers and Skunk 2 Upper arms. After a little metal massaging, and I do mean slight, I get no rub at all. The car handles great.
