Default Silencer For Exhaust *Searched*

So, I have a tanabe exhaust on my 96 vtec Prelude, and I was wondering what exactly a silencer for exhaust is? Does it just make it quieter? Does it affect flow of exhaust? etc. Also, is there a silencer for a Tanabe exhaust?
-Thanks

it makes it quieter and i have seen power losses on the dyno when using them.it may depennd on your exhaust system though.

if your exhaust accepts a silencer there should be holes on the tip for it too bolt in. there may also be ones that just slide in but i don't think i would count on it too stay in the exhaust.

yes it makes it quieter by restricting air flow..

pretty simple to install, not sure if they make one for your exhaust.. but it does effect flow a bit.. but it its easier to drive, its worth it i guess

I hated my silencer in my skunk2 it was little quieter but quality sounded horrible, it sounded raspy, and I can hear nothing but airflow with it out, alot better. One bolt and screw hold most of them in from the tip. Dont pay 50+ for one, unless noise problems are an issue.

for ***** and giggles put it in backwards sometime. We were **** *** board one time at work so we riced my car out with a cardboard wing, the silencer in backwards, and a few other stupid things... did get some looks though. Looks of "WTF was that guy thinking???"

isnt that an oxymoron?

getting a exhaust for the vroom? but putting a silencer on it?

im sure there are other exhaust systems that do not sound loud but you also get the performance you want at the sametime.

No thats an Assumption that you want the exhaust for the vroom or wonngggg

most people want it to free up backpressue and to gain performance.. not for the sound

I kind of like it, sounds deeper and burbly. definately feels more restrictive at highway speeds over 4000rpm though.

i hear ya man, i wonder if anybody has dyno tested them
both ways to see which way is more beneficiary.
i've heard that too much exhaust flo can hurt performance
if the engine isn'e beefed up enough

on mildly modd'ed honda, aka socal mod job, intake header exhaust.

In some case you might see a decrease in Hp compare to Stocker...
invest in a quality resonator instead

i've heard the A'PEXi with silencer reduces the HP by about .5 to 1, but not sure on any change to the torque. Makes sense if you think about it, because the diameter of the silencers opening isn't much different from the size of the piping comming into the exhaust.
