Has anyone heard anything about the new 04' 1/4 times and 0-60? My dad is in the process of deciding which car to buy...04 TL or 03/04 S2k...and he wants to know some times. I tried searching...but came up with nothing. And if there is something...then I must have missed it. I'm guessing that since the 04' has imporved torque and gearing, it should be slightly faster than the 03' (13.8). Thank you in advance.
I don't know that anyone has fullt road tested an 04 S2K yet. And comparing magazine times, unless the cars are tested on the same day by the same driver, is pretty pointless. The S2K is going to be faster than a TL.
The two are very different cars.
Surf around at S2Ki.com and see if you can find anything of use.
Either way sounds like he's going to end up with a very nice car.

I don't thinks enough results are in to say for sure. But I've heard all the performance aspects won't change much. I think the goal for the 04 was to make a car that didn't perform any worse, but was much more drivable on the road.
I would put money that they are faster than the previous models. They have much more power under the curve and they are dynoing almost 20 WHP more than the 03' models.
On top of that they are much improved in the aesthetic department also.

Thnx for the replys...looks like since both cars are really new, its goin to be hard to get the 1/4 mile times, so I'll wait a little longer till more articles come out.
Just out of curiosity...my dad may have the choice between a 03' and an 04', both new at the dealership...which would be better suited for him. He was debating if he did go with the S2k...the 03' would definetly be cheaper since the 04's are out, but I did tell him how much more drivable the 04' is. Would you say that the Driveability of the 04' outweighs say a 3-5k(guessing) price tag difference? He's an older guy, 52, so his skills aren't what they used to be.

Ya, the '04 makes for a better midlife crisis-mobile
My dad got one back in 2000 and never really drove it because it was too uncomfortable (and he was scared someone would ding it)

Yeah...comfort may be the deciding factor if he gets the S2k. He has an pretty bad back. 1 Slipped disk, and one that is almost completely worn away. He wants to own another sports car before he can't even sit in one. The last sports car he had was a 72' Dodge Dart back in 1973. So hopefully the S2k won't be that harsh on him. I thought it felt comfortable when I sat in it. The 04' felt a little more roomy and my knees weren't resting completely against the door and drivetrain hump aposed to the 00-03's.

The ride in the 04 is a noticable improvement over the previous model. I drove them back to back.
Neither car is going to ride like a Lexus though (or a TL for that matter).
If he wants a sports car with a comfy ride, a base model Boxster is a pretty nicce package.

Your dad wants to decide between a 2 seat convertible sports car, or a 4 door luxury sedan...based on 1/4 mile times, of which neither car is particularly within its element?

No...I'm just giving him the numbers as reference. It gives a general idea about how fast the car is and as a comparison to other cars we're lookin at. If he were solely buying for fastest car only...he'd buy a Z06 like he wanted before.

Some of the posts are of regular people driving and posting. The ones to take look for are from Car and Driver (C&D) and Motor Trend (MT)...and they'll have those abreviations along the top somewhere.
As far as American Muscle goes...he does have some love for them since he grew up with them...hense his 72' Dodge Dart. This thing was track ready. It was slammed in the front...had G60's in the back, upgraded differential, carbs, traction bars, exhaust, all kinds of stuff. Only reason he sold it was cause of the gas crisis back in the mid to late 70's.

Its kinda like comparing apples and oranges here. The S2000 is a great sports car, and it is FAST! Not necessarily quick by some of the other cars standards, but if you want to go 120mph occassionally then that is your car. The luxury cars are made to make you feel comfortable, and they have power to pull all that extra weight around. Thats my .02 cents...
