Accord ex 4c Catastrophic Failures
Just read thread on oil seal backing out being a common problem. Thats exciting! What other catastrophic failures should I be looking for?
Thanks for your help...

Timing belt breaking and screwing up pistons/valves, but it's not really a common problem. It's just regular maintenance to get the timing belt replaced. However when it fails, it fails in spectacular glory.

I believe that was a dealer recall on that. They should repair it for free. They did for me.

If your Honda engine is DOHC, you'll likely get more damage when your timing belt breaks with engine running. But Hondas aren't the only cars with interference valve design engines so don't think you can skip changing the timing belt on other cars!

I guess I am not doing so good with the info. I have a 2004 ex with 4 cyl 5 speed auto, my first accord. Ran a 89 celebrity to 265017 miles doing all my own maintenance. Bought the accord so I would not have to mess with it other than oil & filters tires etc.
Still, I would like to know about the details. I have heard so much from dealers that it is all a fog now, but I was thinking the 4 cyl had a timing chain instead of a belt now and it needed checked at 100K or so.
I can find no outside temp reading. I think it is standard on the lx or a 6 cyl ex maybe.
Looking into the accessories I find you cant have the outside temp and the fog lights installed at the same time which puzzles me. Does anyone know why?
Should new owners be writing down serial numbers on various part and pieces of the car?
Hope my next post puts the correct information up front.
Thanks for your help.

unless my eyes deceive me, it does in fact use a timing chain rather than a belt like the previous years.
for the rest of the things, i do not know.
