Prelude - Turbo or SuperCharged?
First off id like to say whats up to all the prelude owners for chooseing a bad *** car. I am getting a new car soon and its definitly going to be a prelude. So far I think im going to get a 93-95 Prelude not sure if i should get Vtec or not, since ive heard people saying not good to get Vtec prelude if your doing super/turbo.
Which one do you think is better tuned for Street, stop light to stop light, 0-60 kind of stuff. Im not a freeway racer so that doesnt really matter to much to me.
Was hopeing someone who has used both or either could tell me how it worked out on their car. BTW JGluder if you read this post, your prelude is ill. this board is by far the best honda forum around.
What are the most important things to upgrade in the engine of the prelude when Turbo/supercharged. Im a CRX junkie so havent studied too much on Preludes. Forgive my Newbie ***

the h23 is a nice turbo engine, from what i hear, but so is the h22 when tuned properly. there's no sc available for the 4th gen. i'd say get the 4th gen vtec, and do some serious research on turbos.
Well, stoplight to stoplight, a SC is really goind to accel, however, as schwett so keenly pointed out, they don't make those for our gen Prelude. Sorry bitches.
A VTEC Lude is simply the way to go if you like power. Some will argue that the Si is better... well, it's not. Great car, and for a non VTEC you can still do some damage on the streets, but it still won't be able to touch the VTEC. Sorry boys, you know how I feel on this.
A turbo will far and above give you more power. Easier to upgrade, more things available, and... huh.... BOV's make cool noises.
The downside is: turbo lag. You ahve to wait for that sucker to spool up before you get some power.
Now: N/A is a good way to go for the street. Stoplight to stoplight, 0-60 etc, I can take on most turbo cars. Why you may ask? I don't have to wait for anything to spool up. I hit 5k and my tires are spinning tearing up the lines in the pavement and I'm gone like a cop after a runaway donut truck. Granted, give them 3rd gear and since I'm not putting down over 300hp to the ground I'd be taken OVER like said donut truck, but that's a different story.
So my long awaited point:
N/A is fun, but it's a hell of a lot more expensive, and not near the rewards as a turbo. The big blowdryer will give you more power hands down.
As for a good turbo buildup:
Have the block bored and sleeved (you have to have an H22 sleeved if you put forged pistons in) and then slide in some Arias or JE slugs (9:1 CR is nice) and some crower rods, and be done with the bottom end. Valve springs are nice, and I'd do some tastey aluminum or titanium retainers (aluminum is actually lighter) and some stainless steel valves. These things resist the heat a lot better than stock equipment. Other things like port and polish, TB, bored intake manifold... etc etc, are all trinkets to just add some extra umph to your bite.
That's just my take on the whole thing. When I do turbo (yes, yes, I'm crossing over to the dark side one day) I'm going 9:1 (and if I'm brave MAYBE 8.5:1) and then a T04 turbo to begin playing with, and next! T66!!!!!!! (Why not, I gotta blow SOMETHING up right?)
This is just all the ramblings of my mind. Many people have differing opinions, and there isn't just one way that's correct. Hope I helped some.

oh and as for the "lag" that everyone claims is so bad in turbos, it is no worse than waiting for 5k to hit vtec... if i do a 4k clutch drop i am spooled before i hit vtec, so don't let the lag scare you, eventually you figure out how to drive it and minimize the lag, just as you learn to drive a vtec engine in the 5k+ area...
Thanks for the help, lot of info in JG's post. I cant belive no ones made a SC for a 4th gen prelude thats really wierd. I pasted and copied all the posts to word so i can remember what you guys have said since i know you all have experiance. GOD I LOVE THIS BOARD
Thanks again for the help.
