The stock pulleys have three layers. metal, rubber, then metal. They act as an engine damper. It's alot like removing your balance shafts. Your pretty much shaving time off your engines life by reducing the stability of the whole thing. Especially if your revving it out all the time. It'll vibrate alot more up top.

I heard they were fairly hard on the mains after a while; makes sense, since they are basically the harmonic balancer for our cars.

I had one on my h23 VTEC when I cracked the crank and melted some mains...if that means anything. It defintely didn't help keep my motor alive

Not to hijack but someone mentioned this is like removing balance shafts. These are completely different forces that the pulley damping and balance shafts act upon.

so what you are saying is the crank pulley dampens the motor from vibration and the balancer shaft balances the crank shaft

Having a balanced crankshaft and and pulley assambly works to correct first order vibrations caused by the imbalance of the rotating assembly (crank motion).

The balance shafts act upon the second order vibrations caused by the reciprocating assembly (up and down motion of pistons) which causes the engine to shake.

Wrong. The Prelude has *GASP* balance shafts. The engine is fine and WILL NOT LOSE LIFE because of the pully. You are referring to a different engine.

The stock crank pulley is also dampened.

......and honda made it dampened, for a reason
it's not worth the money or the few "extra hp" it makes

the damper is really not need, the old honda engines never had it and they ran for many 100,000 miles...the honda cranks are soo well balanced u can run the UR crank pulley's without a glich. A member of PO.com had a crank pulley and said it was a "UR Pulley" but it wasnt and it broke, yet UR has never had one broken crank pulley or no motor has crankwalked b/c of thier crankpulley so u are safe.
