do i need a crossmember to fit a header?
someone told me once that i need to replace my crossmember with an aftermarket version to install a one-peice header on my 88hb with b16. any comments or advice would be appreciated.
depends on the header. sometimes there is a clearance issue but you can just trim yours back. if you have to trim it a ways back you can then weld in a chunk to bring it back up to the proper strength.

It depends on a number of factors. The header is just one. The other BUG one is the mount kit. If you are using a Hasport kit, most 4-2-1 headers will fit without any modifications. But if the header is one piece, the crossmember will need to be removed to install the header. 4-1 headers will require some modification such as cutting off the lip and/or massaging the crossmember with a hammer. And in some extreme cases (like the JDM ITR 4-1), a custom crossmember will be required.
The Place Racing kit palces the engine farther foreward, creating additional difficulties if you run a header. If you are using the Place Racing kit, even a typical DC 4-2-1 header will require modification of the crossmember. And some headers just can;t be used AT ALL if you are using the Place Racing kit. The JDM ITR 4-1, for instance, cannot be used with the Place Racing kit.
