How to mount this bucket seat?
I tried to search, but couldn't find any definitive threads that show how a bucket seat is attached to rail/sliders.
I found this carbon-kevlar Recaro bucket (OEM seat for the Spirit R Type-A RX-7) @ a secondhand shop in Japan; with some logistical assistance from my friend Chris Giancaspro (DC5RK20A) in Okinawa, this seat is now sitting in my garage
After talking to On-Track Performance (Recaro dealer), I decided to order the Recaro/Wedge bottom mount slider/rail kit (as the OEM fitment in the RX-7 uses a bottom mount too). Upon receiving the kit, I cannot for the life of me figure out HOW this thing is supposed to attach to the seat...am I supposed to use some part off my stock seat? Quite embarassing, but I'm completely lost.

I have emailed On-Track about this, but I was hoping that since a lot of you are using bucket seats maybe you could enlighten me...would I be better off going with something like the Mugen seat rail instead?
Thanks in advance

Most Recaro buckets mount on the side. That's why you can use Bride, Mugen rails and sliders for most of them. I have never seen one mount like that. Maybe the jdm recaro rail would work?
Actually looking at them closer, you are going to have to custom something if you want to use those existing holes.

Looks like you're going to have to custom fabricate something since it looks like a bottom mount seat.
Can't think of a better answer than that ... too busy drooling.

Oh I hope not...
BTW, here's a pic of the seat in the Spirit R Type-A:

I'm 6'1" (190lbs) and I fit very comfortably in this seat; weighs a tad over 12lbs if I remember correctly.

Try looking at using a Momo seat bracket for your car; afaik, they're made for bottom mount seats. I'm not sure if the dimensions or holes line up though.

But I thought Momo seats had the holes at the bottom of the seat parallel to each other. kengs' seat has the front holes after the curvature of the seat.

It really wouldn't be that hard to make something to fit it. But I am positive those rails aren't going to work for you. Those are made for sidemount, correct?

Uh... in order for those to fit your going to have to do some work on the rear mounting points since it's AFTER the curve. I have never seen any seats for the Hondas that have that kind of mounting style. Everything is usually on the side OR on flat bottom surface. Good luck on this one JDM *****.
Doh.
How about the Mugen rails? Would they fit?
I don't mind drilling new holes, but I don't want to waste any more money

Find a race prep/fab shop in the area - anyone who builds custom roll cages should be able to have something for you to mount to your stock rails/sliders for about 2 hrs in labor.

Exactly. Nothing a welder can't take care of.

JB Weld: Best Ghetto fab ever!
Shane dog, spend a lil money on stunna this holiday. I know you got the hookups!
Theres no way you cant just make new holes for the Recaro?

Mugen are side mount.
The problem with the idea of drilling new holes, is that usually they are not just holes in the seat. There is actually a metal thread inside the hole so you can put a bolt in the side and thread it onto the seat. If you just drilled holes in the side, you would have to have a locking nut on the other side, which would be really uncomfortable to sit in.
I think it is a good idea to have a welder make something for you.

LOL, no Arrr for me...
And it is only one SEAT, not two
I'm leaning towards having a custom bracket made - but hopefully On-Track will be able to offer up some other solution. Thanks everyone for their feedback/suggestions
Here's what the seat looks like with the OEM Mazda rail/slider (not my pic):

A tap and die won't work either, because there is supposed to be a metal thread inside the kevlar. It is made into the seat.
I think you're missing a crossbar part. The base would be installed, then the sliders, and on top of that would be to bars that go across between the sliders that have numerous holes to allow for mounting of uncommon patterns. Don't know the recaro part #, but the sparco # is SM500. You would probably have to use a spacer ontop of that to reach up to the recessed areas in back. That would be the bolt in route. I would probably opt for a custom fabbed braket though because it will end up being lower. A good base to start off of where you could make everything bolt together would be the A-Sports rails, and instead of using their supplied side mounts, have a brakcet made to fit the bottom of the seat, and then bolt onto the rails where the sidemount brackets would mount.

theres actually a plate attached to the threaded sleeve , it has to be pretty strong.
