Alright the question I have is which spool valves are interchangeable? I know all spool valves from the Z6 are, but are Y8 spool valves the same, and/or are B-series spool valves the same?

If you dont know what the spool valve is, it is the metal piece that bolts to the head, in which the VTEC oil pressure connector(green) hooks up to. The VTEC solenoid is also mounted to this with 3 bolts.

I am in search for one because when I removed the VTEC oil pressure connector and put a regular bolt in with a lock washer ( to seal it up) it actually cracked the housing some, and now I cant go into VTEC because the oil pressure is off on the solenoid and I am also leaking a small amount of oil off of the spool valve. This was all done yesterday when i swapped a Z6 into my 89 Si.

I appreciate any help and if any of you have that spool valve up for sale I'm interested in purchasing it, i cannot find any scrap yards around here that have it, and I dont want to pay honda prices.

 

The vtec solenoid is interchangeable with single cam and twin cam. Take one off of a single cam and you should be good.

 

i am not worried about the actual solenoid its self, I need the piece that it bolts to (spool valve)

Is that interchangeable as well?

 

Unfortunately I found out this isnt correct. I found a Spool valve off of a Y8 head and they are not the same. They bolt arrangement is slightly different, and even where the VTEC solenoid bolts to is is shaped a little different
