Default b16a obd1 wiring into 88 crx hf.

hey guys, just getting to the wiring section of my swap and ive done some searching on it and might have a conclusion, but just need to be sure. i have a b16a obd1 engine that im putting into my crx hf and im running the pr3 ecu. im really trying to do it the DIY way and save some money by not buying some of the great sub-harnesses out there so i was wondering if i could take my hf harness and just repin it at the pr3 ecu. would all i really have to do is buy the pr3 ecu blocks and follow this diagram ( http://tech2.hybridgarage.com/...pr3_a )? or should i just make my own sub harness instead? also, any info on where to buy the ecu blocks and wires from. thanks for all the help.

Are you using an OBD-I PR3?

Make sure you know which PR3 you have, as ther are available in both OBD0 AND OBD1. The wiring is different beteween both of these ecu's, so make sure you get the correct diagram. I upgraded to OBD1 using the very rare OBD1 PR3.

how can i varify that the ecu is obd1? also, why would they give me a non-obd ecu with an obd1 motor?

The obd0 pr3 has a led in the middle of the top side to read engine codes and there should be 3 main plugs on the side.
The obd1 pr3 has no LED on it, and there are more than 3 plug in's on the side (can't remember how many). Also, what makes you think the motor is OBD1, Does the harness have milky white plugs on the engine harness, or are they grey. If yuo post a couple pics, i could tell you in 2 seconds.

the ecu from what i can remember (engine is at my uncles house) it doesn't have the led and it if i can remember correctly it has more than 3 plugs on the side. also the distributor is not like non obd in that it sits straight up but the middle piece is slanted a bit. also i ordered a 92+ year engine so that should mean its obd1. and i got some pics too. i have one picture of the motor and one of the dist. cap.

in the second pic you can actually see the milky white wires.
any info on the wiring?

Cant say this any better myself. I dont know how much you get paid per hour, but to me, I'd rather get a pre-made conversion harness ( the price has dropped alot since I saw them years ago) rather than RE-PINNING the entire ECU wires underneath the glovebox.

I did this years ago in my 90 HF when I converted it to OBD1. It was time consuming and tedious. And to me, not worth my time. I could have done other jobs like put cams in or a clutch job and made enough money to buy a few harnesses.

The guys that build these harnesses did the research first and built a model or "jig". Now they just go from there and build perfected copies. Let them do what they do often and save yourself the trouble.

I'm proud to say I am one of the few guys that repinned their EF's to OBD1 years ago without any pre-made harnesses then. My wiring was sucessful and works flawless till this day, but if I could do it over again, I would have just gotten a harness.

( they were almost $ 300.00 back then) !!!!!

That was part of my reason to attempt the conversion WITHOUT a harness, but for how much they have dropped in price, I say save yourself some time and headache, especially if you dont do wiring everyday like I do.

I install engine swaps, remote starters, alarms, navigation, all day long, and even with my experience of 10+ years in mobile electronics, I still think the time saved with the pre-made harness is worthwhile.

If you want to attempt it, more power to you. Its all about what your time is worth to you.

I have AT LEAST a DOZEN of my swapped customers running around town with Jason's harnesses. I thought about re-pinning theirs also, but its so much more simple using a conversion harness.

That number doesnt include the numerous ones I have distributed to local "walk-in" do it yourself swappers or other shops in the area.

Jason's customer service is outstanding and he stands behind his harnesses.

we just did this and my car won't start everything is plugged in right and it cranks but the car isn't getting any spark. what do you guys think is wrong.?

i have a 88hf and was using a 89 si harness i think not sure which one came with the swap but i know it wasnt a 88hf harness because i had to change some wires and plug them is different places to get the car to run.

but now everything is swapped and the car won't start.
