i'm sorry i'm not halfassin my setup.....i consider everything an investment.....and with the punishment that the wheels will be getting....i'm not going to have chance decide my life on the course......it's not a jdm thing.....it's a quality and strength issue!

Before choosing a wheel for autocross, you should choose the class, and then the tire you're going to run.
Don't choose the tire based on the wheel - it should be vice versa.
Now . . . what class and tire are you going to run? How much money do you have to spend, and do you want to be competitive, or are you just going for fun? Do you have another set of wheels for daily driving?
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by y49crxsi »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Rotas are quality, there jsut not jdm, so there cheaper. lol, well, im not to sure of that, but i know there good wheels. </TD></TR></TABLE>
No, they're cheaper because they're cast instead of forged. That means they're heavier than and not as strong as a forged wheel of the same design. With that said, 15x7 Slipstreams would be just fine for an autocross car. In fact, if I wasn't already going to run 13x8s with 235/45-13 Kumhos on my CRX, I'd consider a set of 15x7 Rotas.
Now that I think about it, I may pick up a set of 15x7 Rotas for HPDE and driver's school use sometime in the future.

well i've read a portion of the scca rules and regulations....and it seems that any chassis, engine, and or body modification is legal. S03 is my tire choice.....i know there was a clause where there is a r compound class...and street class....i want to have fun and compete.....i'll build the engine up after i learn to drive

Street what?
These are the SCCA's Solo-2 classes, pick one:
Stock
Street Touring
Street Prepared
Street Modified
Prepared
Modified
If you have not autocrossed yet, I would suggest not touching anything on your car and not doing any mods for your first several events. Drive it as-is and learn the basics first, and only then will you be able to make the most out of any modification you do. Once you know "how to drive" (so to speak), then you will know what mods you need to do in order to improve.

thank ya...i'm still getting familiar with the scca rulebook.....oh and this car is in shambles....that's why i'm buying wheels and such.....it needs everything replaced...motor....exterior....suspension....i forgot to mention that
I just wanted to 2nd Targa250R's comments. When the car is running do some events for fun, most regions have some class (novice/street tire/pax) that is kinder on beginners. That rulebook can be confusing since it was written and amended over many decades. And it helps to actually "see" what shows up to an event first. Heck even if the car isn't running, go watch an event (if you haven't already) and talk to the various competitors (when they aren't busy) people are pretty nice and helpful.

At a minimum read the classes section of the SoloII rulebook in the order Targa250R listed. Each class typically builds upon the allowances of the previous one. The 2003 rulebook doesn't order them that way, that is fixed when 2004 comes out. So while what you've said is true for SoloII in general, it may not be for an individual class.
For example, DOT R-compounds are legal in every class except Street Touring (S and X). And the higher classes (Prepared and Modified) are allowed full racing slicks. Your S-03 would be an excellent choice for STS/STX (many choose Falken Azenis Sport or Kumho Ecsta MX for the price, but the Bridgestones are on par performancewise), but in any other class it will be like taking a knife to the proverbial gun-fight.
Becareful on engine/engine mods as one little part could bump you to Street Prepared or Street Modified. And that will be "difficult" to say the least.

Not sure what their policy is, but my local SCCA and NASA regions allow passengers for instructional/fun/experience purposes. As long as you sign the gate waiver, wear a helmet, and keep your hands in the car you can ride along. If someone you know is running that day it helps, but I've given rides to total strangers who asked. Hmmm, that doesn't sound right but you know what I mean. Just try not to ask if they are on their last set of runs or if they look busy/concentrating.

Exactly. Those weren't even Slipstreams, they were Attacks. You also have to consider the history of those wheels was unknown because he bought them used; they were later found to have corrosion and cracking in the area where they broke. Also, a WRX is over 1150lb heavier than an '88 Civic STD.

Really i would go with rota slipstreams cuz one theyre very light and two theyll save you money. This last year I auto crossed with them and had absolutly no problems with them. But its your money waste it if you want.
