Default wrong Key open my door !!

alright, so Ihave 2 EGs, 1 is parked for winter ,but I still ahve the key on my keychain.

so today I go up to my car, disarm the alarm, unlock my door, and put my key in the ignition, and it would'nt turn, so I though, great it's so ******* cold now that my key wont even turn. so I took it out and it was the wrong key, I unlocked the door with the other civic's key with no problem, I didn't even have to force or anything, I didn't even notice

what the **** ? obviously our cars are getting stolen like this if the keys open all the doors. and my keys look diffrent too, I thouhg maybe they were close, but not that much...

has anyone change there door lock for a other key ?

hummmm, i wonder if your 92 key would work on like a 94. since it's the same body style but differn't year. i know at honda they have a master key that the lot guys use. but the keys got by year and body style. like one key would work every 98 accord that was ever made.

what it is that the keys are so closely simular that it does work sometimes but only on the 92-95 civics. ****** scary thats why u always need a alarm dude. my freind opened up (one time to show us and plus people where makin bets he cant) opened up like all 4 civics that were outside lol o btw theives do use that to their advantage too

In time the lock "ID" mechanisms (I don't know exactly what the **** in a lock is called) wear down and become less sensitive, happens with all key-locks.

door locks are wafer type.

not as secure IMO as a pin-tumbler type mechanism.

Yeah, that's a scary thought.

I worked as a valet a few years back. We were parking cars on the street at the time because our lot was full. I was to retrieve a customer's Toyota Camry. I came back with a Camry but it wasn't his although I used his set of keys to unlock the door and start the car. He said it wasn't his and I asked him multiple times if he was sure because I was staight-up confused. However, I found it rather amusing later on although the owner of the Camry I "stole" must have been thinking WTF when he saw his car parked in a different spot from where he left his car.

Cliffnotes: I stole a car accidentally.

i don't really want to post the website, but there is a website that has honda master keys and a few other master keys, i bought one to see if it works, on 90 % of the cars i have tried it on it works in the doors easy and in the ignition a little harder...

my 88HF key also acts like a master key in alot of cars, its wierd.

the inner cylinder gets worn out. My old RX-7, I used any key. You figure these cars are getting old, And wonder how many times you have opened the door.
