Default opinions on auto tensioner replacement

unfortunately, when i swapped in an h22 into my 93si a couple months ago, i didn't replace my auto tensioner cause i was ignorant to this fact. I don't have any flapping sounds now, but i'm pretty worried about it failing cause some fluid did leak out when i re-compressed it. i'm gonna check the belt tension this weekend.

so i can sleep better, i think i'm gonna replace it. now, i also think i just want to replace only the auto tensioner unit itself, instead of doing the conversion to manual. i'm pretty sure this would save me from having to take the belts off, which i hate doing with the engine in the car.

so, has anyone just replaced the tensioner without removing the belts, and tensioner pulley? is it fairly easy? or not worth it and just do the man. conv.?

also, i heard made a new (better maybe) auto tensioner... does anyone know if the new tensioner unit can bolt in with the old auto tensioner pulley/hardware? (again to save me from removing the belts)

would like some opinions... thanks

oh ya, i put new timing / bal. belts / water pump on pre swap, so they're new...

I don't think it's possible to change the tensioner without taking off the belt.

Have changed your belt? If yes than how would you think it's possible?

Unless you are missing the plastic that covers the timing belt area... I don't think you can take out the tensioner without first taking off all the accessory belts. (correct me if I'm wrong) But in my opinion I'd just do the manual tensioner change-over and get it over with. Make sure everything is TDC

****.. ..sorry, i was talking about not having to remove the timing/balancer belts, not the accessory belts. that's my fault for not clarifying that.

so now it should be possible right???

Even still you will not be able to remove the autotensioner without removing both timing belt and balancer belt.
