Doing my first clutch swap... help?
Ok.. so I just got my Action 2MD clutch from UPS today (thanks wiredspeed!!) and I will be doing the install this weekend. I have never done a clutch before and want to know if there are any things that I need to knwo in advance.. things to watch out for.. etc. I've heard putting the axles back in is very difficult if you don't know the trick (which I don't know). Any help would be much appreciated! Help a n00b day!! hehe
the axles are simple...getting the actual tranny back onto the motor is a pain in the ***...make sure you have friend or two help(or maybe I'm just too weak
) other than that its simple

Getting the axles out is the bitch. Usually it involves sticking a pry bar between the tranny and the axle and prying it away. Once I had to take the driver's side axle and intermediate shaft out in one piece because they wouldn't seperate. I actually started chipping the intermediate shaft cuz it was rusted on there. FYI the intermediate shaft just pulls right out of the tranny. There is no C-Clip on the end.
To get the axles back in, you just get the axle in the tranny a bit. Then like ram the axle back and forth a bit to slam it into place. Don't pull it out too far because the CV joints will seperate. Just like quickly ram it. If you don't make sure its in there good then your car won't move. My buddy didn't get his axles in there all the way and the car wouldn't move at all. He thought it was the clutch; pulled that; replaced it; then figured out that his axles weren't in all the way
. You learn one way or another.

so "ramming" is the trick? We were wailing on it and it never went in. It looks like there are grooves before the needle bearings, but none on the CV shaft so I guess theres nothing to line up. we even messed with the c-clip and that didnt help.

Getting the axles out is easy. Have one person pry from the bottom while you pry from the top....with a force on the top and bottom, they will come right out with hardly and pressure.
<- pulled his old DX axles in 30sec

Clutchs are pretty simple and easy to F up too. Make sure you replace the release bearing and carefully high temp grease the part it slides on but over do it with the lube. Make sure the disc is in the right way- ive seen it done backwards
. You can leave the whole drivers side axel assembly in one peice. Just remove the 3 14mm head bolts holding the intermediate shaft to the block and bungee the **** out of the way, after poping out the upper ball joint and brake line bracket of course. There are so many time saving tips I can think of. Biggest thing is make sure the clutch is installed correctly. All the other stuff can be fixed w/o taking the tranny off again if you forgot a wire or something... good luck

Its easy, just dont pull the tranny off and have it land on your chest while your on your back and on the garage floor
those trannys are heavy when on top of you... working on a clutch limited to jackstands sucks *****

don't get oil on your pressure plate or clutch disk. Use the alignment tool the first time, or else nothing will line up. If you do nto have a torque wrench get one and follow helms torque specs. If you flywheel is old get a new one, or get it resurfaced. Call me if you run into any snags, I am not doing anything fun this weekend.
