Found out I was ripped off from IB over a year ago.
Went to get my car tuned today (made 290whp, horray), but my tuner pointed out to me that the ECU in my GSR is in fact, a civic p28 ECU. I know what happend now. Import builders tuned my car last year with a fresh Hondata install. Jeff swapped my GSR ecu for a CIVIC ecu. 2 things are wrong with this
1) Civic ecu's are worth less
2) a p28 ECU CANNOT CONTROL MY SECONDARIES! Mine are open all the time.
I've heard of this practice before from IB. Speak up, i know there are others on here that have suffered the same fate.

That sucks. Have you tried calling them yet?
The P28 is not a worthless ECU. It's one of the most sought after OBD1 ECU's. You CAN control your secondaries using the nitrous control output. You shouldn't have to resort to this if you originally had a P72, but will get you by in the meantime.

havent called yet. im still fuming. I'm going to cool off before i say something stupid. I'd just like to know that im not alone on this at the moment.
Yeah from what i heard it was one of the best ecu's (P28) because u can basically run it on any vtec car with minimal emission sensors. You just need to get it tuned and should be on your way.
i belive the customer pays for a service and is pretty known well fact that shops r always cutting corners, saving money whenever they can, i dont think u got ripped off just should have been more knowledge-able at the time, or atleast ask them exactly what they r going to do when u pay for a service

this has happened before to another unsuspecting hondatech member like a year or so ago. im trying to find the thread now, but pretty much jeff did the same thing he did to you Jared.

this is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. It is THEFT, not cutting corners. Thats like Me repairing an integra you gave me and I give you a civic as the end product and try and pass it off as an integra.
I was charged 100 dollars for "INSTALLATION" of the hondata. Id have no problems for swapping of a different p72 because that makes things nice and quick, but he switches me up with a p28 and pretends that its a p72. He fooled me for about 16 months.

dude man, thats messed up.. Shady business practices like this will catch up to them sooner or later. Ive never been an importbuilders fan. If I were a hater id insert a big thumbsdown right here but ill keep my mouth shut and maybe they will resolve this.

^^ yeah i know. This is the hard part. But i know others have been screwed this way, and I hope they step up.

I hope they step up and fix the issue, I am getting sick of all this BS from seemingly everyone.

Thats why I try to do all my stuff on my own. Import Shops have been known to do **** like that. Im not saying everyone, but alot of guys who own shops are the same guys who got into imports by jacking.
this is why i started building engines. because i got tired of getting jacked. back in the early 90's i had a guy rebuild my motor, nothing big just a stock rebuild. 6 months later and 2500 he closed down his shop and left my car completely diassembled. i tried to track him down but its hard to track down a justin smith (real name) . he resides in southern california near ontario. 2 shops later and $4500 i gave up on letting people do my work. i mean i wasnt even a cheap skate i was willing to pay top dollar but i wanted top dollar work. i couldnt find it. when i build customer engines i build them with reliabilty as the priority. when you **** breaks its not fun and this game is all about the fun factor! just my 5 cents
your best bet is to file a small claim case for $20 and see how you do. its accually a pretty easy process. you can sue for upto 5k. basically come up with the amount you feel you were damaged and let the judge decide. i hope it works out for you.

Why the **** do issues like these only happen when dealing with import shops? I have never encountered this kind of crap with other hobbies or interests. I no longer go to local shops, now I buy all my **** through Kyle and install it myself whenever I can, I got sick of all the BS. Don't any of these shop owners know how to run a business in the real world? Honest and quality shops are few and far between, I had always assumed IB was legit...
How come they didnt give you your original p72 back? They installed my hondata, took my p72 ecu and replaced it with a p28, then tuned my car. However, they did give me my gsr ecu back.
