how do i put on coilovers on my 93 hatch cx, can you explain it to mewith good detail, step by step. if you could it would be great thank you
take out your old springs and then removed them and reverse the steps and bolt in your new coilovers!!
Do search you need more details!!
But...if you never done suspension before, you should take it to the shop!!

well, actully, searching will help you put them on, im sure this has been asked before, though i know how it is, its nice to have a topic custom tailerd to your needs, however, on basic stuff, a good search can be just as good

ok well i just searched after i posted before and i didnt find any thread about how to put them on, although i did find plenty about coilovers, so whats going on? am i searching wrong?so can someone now explain it to me?
basically you have to disconnect the strut assembly from the car (held on at the top and bottom of the shock/ pillow ball mount). Then if you have new upper mounts you just put the coilovers in. If not you have to take apart the old strut assembly to get the upper mounts and bump stop washers off. Most people will tell you to use a spring compressor, but brave, and sometimes stupid people will just take them off. The problem is that the spring is under some load in the assmebly, so unloading it at once will shoot the nut off the top of the assembly. You can also take the assembly to a shop like midas or somewhere to have them take the upper mounts off for you. Then you just put the bump stop washers and upper mount (with its bushings) on the new coilover assembly. After you've got the new assembly set up just put it back in the car. Make sure that when you put the car back on the ground you have the hood up just in case you forgot a washer in the assembly. If you dont the top of the struts can dent the hood if you left out a washer or bushing on accident.

Ok,...do you have a repair manual?? Tools?? important if you gonna work on your car!!
If you got a repair manual already then flip to the SUSPENSION section as a reference!! Before you do any work make sure you plan ahead, such as spray rust penatractions or wd-40 to all the bolts you going to work on!! also make sure you have all the parts you going to replace with,...most late model honda and acura are known have a notorist rust problem with the rear LCA bushing, which make the two rear suspension bolt imposible to loosen up!! You will need to cut them off and get some new bushing to replace!! Here's how I did mine.....easy steps:
1. jack up the car, and put it on jackstands ( 4-corners) safety first!!!
2. take out the 4-wheels
3. loosen but not competely unbolt the top locking screw on top of all four shocks, this will be much easier when you took the whole shock/spring out to seperate the springs and shock. NOTES: only unbolts this locking screw if you are replacing the coil-spring!!
4. unbolt the whole shock'spring out, use a spring compresser to compressed the spring and now ubolt the locking screw on top of the shock, noticed it should be much easier to unbolt now that you did the step #3.
5. seperated the spring from the shock!! **use you manual!!
6. Install the new spring or coilover in the reverse step of seperating spring from shock!! **need to use your manual!!
7. install the complete shock w/ spring onto your car, **reverse the step also!! Make sure you have the correct torque for each bolts ***manual!!
8. DONE!! now go do the same thing to the other corners!!
If you still dont understand or if you need more information do search on this topic, its been cover many times before!! have fun!!!

Coilover Installation
One of the first modifications generally done to a vehicle is the suspension. Choosing the right suspension and components is vital to a smooth functioning system. One the best ways to do this is to pick up a tuned coilover suspension for your vehicle, where the spring and shock combo have been specifically tuned for the car to work together. Most will offer some adjustability for the user such as dampening and ride height.
---------------------------------------------------------------

^After jacking up the car completely and placing it on jack stands, remove the wheels from all for corners. Then remove the from strut tower bar from the engine bay. Then remove the 17mm bolt from the lower fork on the front hub. There is a 14mm nut on the opposing side.
---------------------------------------------------------------
^Now remove the the upper 14mm bolt from fork on the back side. This will loosen the fork from the shock body. Then remove the 10mm bolts holding onto the brake line.
---------------------------------------------------------------
^You can now remove the fork from the shock tower by pulling/wiggling it downwards. If it is stuck, you can try using a hammer and carefully hit the fork downwards until it comes free. Now all you have to do is remove the two nuts in the engine bay and the shock will fall out from the wheel well, so have one hand on the shock while you are removing the upper nuts.
---------------------------------------------------------------
^Before putting in the new coilover, make sure it is assembled correctly and that there is no visible defects. Set the height adjustment collars to the middle, they don't have to be tight at this point, you will set them later. Now lift the coilover into position inside the wheel well and put the 2 upper nuts back on to hold it in place. Now you can repeat the previous steps to put the fork back together.
---------------------------------------------------------------
^One thing you will notice is that on some setups, there is no place for the brake line to bolt back on. One solution is to zip tie it to the fork. You can now move onto the rear suspension. Remove the rear upper strut bar if there is one. Then remove the 2 nuts on the top holding onto the shock - just like the front ones.
---------------------------------------------------------------
^Remove the 14mm bolt in the rear lower control arm. Then remove the two 14mm bolts holding the rear upper control arm to the chassis. Once those are removed, the shock will slide right out just like the front ones. Place the new coilover into place and repeat the steps to put it all back together. Once its all buttoned up, put the wheels back on and lower the car down. If its too high or too low, adjust the height on all for corners to your liking.

I've got some cheapo coil-overs(just the sleeve kind not "true" coilovers) from APC. I never put them on, but they come with these rubber washers to place between the adjustment sleeve and dampner. Different sizes for different dampners. Kinda universal, but anything universal i've seen for a car has usually been crap and like I say you can't spell crap without A-P-C!
i dont mean to hijack this thread, but, what are the benifets of coilovers as opposed to just normal suspension? i was looking to buy the tokico illumina's set, but thought i had better check into this coilover biz.. so real quick if you dont mind, tell me what makes them better? thanks alot for the info!
Well you can adjust the ride height for conditions, and on the nicer ones the dampening force. It basically gives you a more flexable system for your car so that you're not stuck slammed with really stiff shocks during city driving, or only decent shock strength and a high center of gravity on the track.
