97 Prelude Trans swap- Auto to 5 speed
Hello everyone. I am converting a 97 Prelude base with an H-22 motor from auto to stick. Anyone know everything I will need? Or anything I should watch out for? I.E. Computer, wiring harness, etc?
Everyone please stick with the topic on the thread. If you want to know anything else (parts, etc) from the rest of the car, please email me. Thanks

tranny mount you don't need to buy but you will need the mount bracket for much less than 250.00
the starter are the same on manual or auto tranny so you can use as long the one you have works
clutch and flywheel you can get an oem exedy replacement for about 225.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...03091
shift linkage or the shifter assembly will cost you around 525.00 new from honda and probably 125.00 less use from the junkyard
clutch pedal and/or brake pedal could run for about or around 150.00ea or you can cut you brake pedal instead of buying one save money there and buy the clutch pedal, you can get one from a 4th gen prelude is the same pedal for probably less than 150.00 on a junkyard
axles you do not need one of this for the swap you will need the intermedite(drive)shaft and you could get it for something between 20.00 to 150.00
as for the clutch master cylinder you can get one of ebay for 50.00 and the slave cylinder for 40.00 but the tranny should come with the slave
Hydraulic Lines should come with the tranny if not you can get them for around 50.00 new from honda http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/home.htm

Manual ECU (Or rewire the Auto ECU)- Rewired
Clutch Damper Assebly
and ecu with immobilizer thingy. I tihnk thats it. If not add on to the list. Up.

yes you will probably need to change your ecu for one from a manual prelude but if running short on cash you can use the one you have but it will feel weird and no you can not reprogram the auto ecu to perform as manual don't work.
you don't need to buy an immobilizer because if you reprogram the manual ecu you just need to make new key and i hear to reprogram an ecu by honda will cost you about 80.00 plus the new set of keys are 20.00ea
if you search for the parts the right way and on the right places it could all come to a grand total of 2000.00 or less depending on your luck plus labor will be no less than 500.00
i will advice you to buy the helms shop manual its a great tool to have around http://www.helminc.com/helm/ho...DDK94
also there was a guy that did the swap and made a writte up with pictures you should search the archives
good luck

Hi,
Got the trans in, everything works. But, what do I have to do with the computer? Is there somewhere to find out what to rewire? Or, is it easier just to swap in a 5-speed computer. Also, with the tach situation, do you have to replace it to get rid of the PRNDL meter? Or, can I just put in an indiglow overlay? Thanks.

You'll need a '97 manual ecu for it to work properly. Alternatively, you could get a standalone. Or, you can try modifying your current ecu:

the problem with the swap is the computer. the ecu will not work becaues of the immobilizer. you have to tow your car to your honda dealership and have them remove your immobilizer from your ecu with a "pgm tester". your immobilizer will no longer be effective. or another way to get around it is use a obd2 gsr ecu that has no immobilizer on it. you can use it but your car wont run right cause of the gsr fuel curves.
