Autometer tach surging above 5k rpms???? Anyone have any ideas why?
Hey I have a 89 Civic LX with a 2000 b18b and it is all running off a 90 integra LS PR4 ECU and wire harness. I was having troubles with the factory tach surging above 5k rpms, like it would just bounce up real fast! So i figered **** it, I would just install a nice sport comp 5 inch unit and that would take care of it, well i hooked it up to my MSD box, and I am still having the same problem, it sux because when it surges into the higher RPM's, it causes the shift light to come on and i am only at like 5500! If anyone has any ideas let me know, Thanks, Frank.
pop ur distributor cap off, check the wires on the ignitor....... should be like 4wires on it. pop em off and clean them up good. you could possibly have a loose connection as well. make sure everything is kool with ur tach wiring as well. i had the same problem and cleanin up all the connections solved it.
I had a similar problem on my old integra it was due to one of my ignitor wire's rubber protector thing being torn....open up the dizzy and check it out
I had the same problem with my autometer tach. The problem was that my power wire was too small, so I just rewired it with 10 gauge wire.

shouldnt be drawing that much current......... my guess is you had a loose connection that u fixed while rewiring it............ car radio's dont even have 10gauge wire for the + power........... anyways u fixed it.

High rpm bouncing tach usually means a crappy ignitor is just about to die.
If your still running the stock one, (Im not familar with the MSD setup)
